Gasquet too strong in Montpellier

10 February 2013 16:10

France's Richard Gasquet has continued his fine form so far in 2013, lifting his second ATP title of the year at the Open Sud de France.

The world number 10 had few problems accounting for compatriot Benoit Paire in Sunday's final of the ATP 250 event, taking a 6-2 6-3 victory in just 69 minutes in Montpellier.

Gasquet made the ideal start to the match, breaking in the first game and repeating the dose in the seventh to take it in only 23 minutes, dropping only two points on his serve.

Paire was better in the second set, but he could not stop Gasquet from claiming his second title of 2013 after his earlier success in Doha.

Gasquet, who defeated Gael Monfils, Julien Benneteau and Jarkko Nieminen to progress to the final, improved his record for the year to 14-1, with his only defeat coming to compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Australian Open fourth round.
