Cilic, Melzer in Zagreb final

9 February 2013 23:02

Top seed Marin Cilic closed on a third Zagreb Indoors title with a comeback win over Mikhail Youzhny on Saturday.

Local hope Cilic, champion in 2009 and 2010, will face off against Jurgen Melzer in the title decider on the Croatian hard courts, after surpassing third seed Youzhny 4-6 6-4 6-3.

Cilic only served at 51 percent and had a modest seven aces, but did claim 73 percent of points behind his first serve - while Youzhny could only win 58 percent on his first ball.

The world number 12 is not only aiming for a third title in Zagreb but a fourth on home soil, and a ninth career win.

Cilic will be confident of beating left-hander Melzer too - holding a 6-2 head-to-head advantage over him.

Melzer progressed to the final with a 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 victory over Dutchman Robin Haase.

The Austrian had a remarkable conversion rate on his first serve - winning 33 of 36 points, and only conceding one break point chance while producing 11 of his own.

Melzer went on to break three times in the match, while Haase could only secure the one break of serve.

The 31-year-old is eyeing just a fifth career title, and his second in the space of 12 months after his win in Memphis in February last year.
