Regular Season:

Format:

8 teams, each plays the others four times - twice at home and twice away - for a total of 28 games each, over 28 game weeks.



Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.



Table order:

1. points won; 2. points in head-to-head matches; 3. goal difference in hth matches; 4. total goal difference; 5. total goals scored; 6. games won; 7. higher place of the club's II team in the II teams' league.



Qualification for Championship Round:

1-6 place: enter Championship Round



Relegation from the league:

7 place: enters Play-offs 1/2 with one 1 Lyga team for 1 place in 2017 A Lyga

8 place: relegated to 2017 1 Lyga



Promotion to the league:

1 team from 2016 1 Lyga

1 more team from 2016 1 Lyga possible to promote through Play-offs 1/2



Changes from last season:

Granitas Klaipėda Kruoja relegated to 1 Lyga

Lietava promoted from 1 Lyga

Championship Round:

Format:

6 teams from the Regular Season contest the 2016 A Lyga champion and a place in the 2017/2018 UEFA Champions League and 2017/2018 UEFA Europa League in a league format.

Each team plays the others once - for a total of 5 games each, over 5 game weeks.

Teams keep their entire Regular Season record going into the Championship Round.

The Championship Round winner is the 2016 A Lyga champion.
