Season


Format:

8 teams, each plays the others four times - twice at home and twice away - for a total of 28 games each, over 28 game weeks.



Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.



Table order:

1. points won; 2. points in head-to-head matches; 3. goal difference in hth matches; 4. games won; 5. total goal difference; 6. total goals scored; 7. total goals ratio (total goals scored divided by total goals conceded); 8. fairplay ranking; 10. play-off.



Qualification for UEFA competitions:

1 place: 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League qualifiers

2-3 place: 2016/2017 UEFA Europa League qualifiers

4 place: possible 2016/2017 UEFA Europa League qualifiers (depends on Cup outcome)



Relegation from the league:

7 place: enters Play-offs 1/2 with one 1. Liga team for 1 place in 2016 Virsliga

8 place: relegated to 2016 1. Liga



Promotion to the league:

1 team from 2015 1. Liga

1 more team from 2015 1. Liga possible to promote through Play-offs 1/2



Changes from last season:

FC Jūrmala relegated to 1. Liga

Gulbene promoted from 1. Liga



Changes before the season:

Daugava Daugavpils, 5th; and Daugava Rīga, 7th last season; don't receive Virsliga licenses and are relegated.
