Format:

12 teams, each plays the others twice - home and away - for a total of 22 games each, over 22 game weeks.



Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.



Table order:

1. points won; 2. total goal difference; 3. total goals scored; 4. points in head-to-head matches; 5. goal difference in hth matches; 6. goals scored in hth matches; 7. away goals in hth matches; 8. play-off (only for deciding the champion); 9. draw.



Qualification for UEFA competitions:

1 place: 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League qualifiers

2-3 place: 2016/2017 UEFA Europa League qualifiers

4 place: possible 2016/2017 UEFA Europa League qualifiers (depends on Cup outcome)



Relegation from the league:

11-12 place: relegated to 2016 1. Deild



Promotion to the league:

2 teams from 2015 1. Deild



Changes from last season:

Fram and Thór relegated to 1. Deild

Leiknir Reykjavík and ÍA promoted from 1. Deild
