Commentary

Minute   Description
That concludes our coverage of the international friendly between the United States and Colombia. We hope you enjoyed it!
The United States will be back in action on October 16th, when they face Peru in East Hartford, Connecticut. Colombia will remain in the United States and face Costa Rica in Harrison, New Jersey – also on the 16th of October.
90'+4 FULL-TIME: USA 2-4 COLOMBIA.
90'+3 Colombia are holding onto possession as the match winds down to its conclusion. It has been a well-played match by the away side whose attacking potency was on full display tonight.
90'+1 Acosta’s out-swinging corner is met by Sanchez who goes unchallenged by United States forwards in the vicinity. The defender nods it out of his penalty area.
89' Arturo Reyes makes a late substitution as Wilmar Barrios who was carded is removed in favour of Juan Roa.
88' Borja breaks through on goal but Miazga does just enough to put the striker off with a slide tackle and force him to miss the net.
84' Julian Green did not have as much influence on the match as Sarachan would have hoped. Andrija Novakovich has six minutes to make his mark.
83' Bobby Wood thought he had the winning goal, but it simply was not to be. He is removed with less than 10 to play, with Joshua Sargent replacing him.
Juan Quintero is substituted out with Yimmi Chara taking his place.
82' James Rodriguez will play no further part in this match, as Didier Moreno comes on to make his senior Colombia debut.
81' QUINTERO STRIKES THE POST! The United States are being mauled as space opens up in the midfield. Quintero drops the shoulder, cuts inside and fires an effort from a long way out which is pushed onto the woodwork!
79' James Rodriguez is once again involved, though this time he turns provider, as it was his cross that teed Borja up for the goal.
OH WHAT A GOAL FROM BORJA! The substitute makes an immediate impact with an absolutely special overhead kick which isn’t struck with venom but takes an awkward bounce which fools the outstretched arm of Steffen. It’s a truly wonderful display of acrobatics, though the goalkeeper should have done better!
76' Falcao’s go-ahead goal is his last contribution of the match, as Edwin Cardona comes on to replace him.
Carlos Bacca who scored Colombia’s second goal is also given the hook, with Miguel Borja his replacement.
Dave Sweat, a native of Tampa, Florida will get his first international appearance in this match as he replaces Antonee Robinson.
74' Juan Quintero is awarded the assist for Falcao’s goal, with his incisive pass giving the striker the time necessary to score.
CAPTAIN FALCAO MAKES IT 3-2! The USA defence make an absolute mess of a long clearance from James, which allows Bacca to steal possession from Robinson and lay a back-heel pass off for Quintero. The midfielder looks inside to Falcao whose run takes him inside the penalty area and once the Monaco striker gets control of the ball, he slots it past Steffen!
73' Acosta takes the set-piece but it’s met by the foot of Sanchez who gets it away from his penalty area.
72' Yedlin’s outswinger is taken superbly, but it misses the head of Wood and is instead met by the clenched fist of Ospina who punches the delivery away but only as far as Acosta who is fouled by Arias. The USA have a free-kick in a great position.
70' Arias gets in behind Robinson for the hundredth time today, but the left-back’s sliding challenge forces the Colombia full-back to run out of room. Steffen will restart play from a goal-kick.
68' Timothy Weah has been cautioned in this match and will play no further part. Marco Delgado is on to replace him.
67' Acosta’s out-swinging corner is met at the near post by a Colombia header who puts it out for a throw-in. America put the ball back in play quickly but Green’s cross to the far post goes unmet and Arias can collect for Colombia.
65' Colombia are enjoying a spell of possession, looking to slow down the play a little bit. Arias crosses it to Falcao but it’s met by the head of Miazga who directs it away from the penalty area. Colombia regain the ball and look to start another attack from just inside their own half.
63' Wilmar Barrios is shown a yellow card for a bad foul on Yedlin in midfield.
60' The match has jumped into life following an incredible start to the second half. Three goals in less than 15 minutes have brought fans of both sides to their feet in Tampa, Florida. The attacking quality has been superb and there doesn’t seem to be an end to the scoring in sight.
58' The United States make a switch after being pegged back to 2-2. Kenny Saief is removed for Fabrice Picault.
56' Santiago Arias once again takes advantage of the weak marking on the Colombia right and notches his second assist of the game.
COLOMBIA ARE LEVEL ONCE AGAIN! 2-2! The goal is once again created by Arias who gets free down the right before cutting the ball back towards the penalty spot for Bacca who waits, unmarked, for the service to reach him. With a first-time hit, the striker beats Steffen with a cool side-foot finish.
55' Juan Cuadrado is removed after going off to receive treatment on his knee. The substitution seems precautionary, with Juan Quintero on to replace him.
53' The goal was taken with clinical finishing, but the pass from Weah deserves all the credit. He is given an assist for his contribution.
BOBBY WOOD MAKES IT 2-1 TO THE UNITED STATES! The comeback is complete as Green wins the ball in midfield after a slide tackle and feeds it to Weah on the left. The winger attracts the attention of two defenders and he uses the space to slip a pass into the box for Wood who latches onto the end of the delivery and pokes it past Ospina!
52' That’s exactly the type of response Sarachan would have hoped for to start the second half. The USA seem more positive in the early stages after the restart which can only be good for the spectacle. It has been an entertaining match thus far.
50' KELLYN ACOSTA MAKES IT 1-1! Robinson puts a simple cross into the box and Sanchez manages to only nod the ball back right into the path of Acosta who takes the goal brilliantly with a side-footed volley after his intelligent run brings him to the back post. Slightly fortunate, but America have themselves back level!
46' Colombia get the second half underway from the kick-off!
Los Cafeteros should really be up by more than just a single goal after an opening period of play in which they really came into the match. Falcao and Bacca are looking threatening as an attacking partnership, and James is in prime form despite some debate over his role for Bayern Munich. Colombia look likely to score with every foray forward, as the difference in quality between the two sides is becoming more and more apparent as the match progresses. At the half, however, there is still hope for Sarachan’s side who are only down 1-0.
The United States started the match well but quickly became uncomfortable under Colombia’s attacking pressure. Bradley and Acosta have looked decent shielding the defence, but the flanks are suffering severely. Robinson and Saief on the USA left are having a torrid time defending against the speed of Arias and the intelligence of James, both of whom combined for Colombia’s goal.
45'+1 HALF-TIME: USA 0-1 COLOMBIA.
45' The fourth official indicates one minute of added time at the end of the first half.
42' MIAZGA WITH THE GOAL-LINE BLOCK! James gets free inside the penalty area after a brilliant pass from Cuadrado. The midfielder shifts the ball from his right foot to his left, taking Robinson out of the play completely. The ball is then fired towards goal and it squirms underneath the arms of Steffen, but Miazga is aware of the danger and puts his body on the line to ensure the deficit isn’t doubled.
40' James takes the in-swinging corner towards Falcao but his trajectory is too high and the ball rolls out of the box on the other side for a USA throw.
38' Arias gets free once again and puts a cross to the top of the box for Falcao who winds up and hammers a volley towards Steffen who can only palm it away before Miazga chooses the safety first approach and heads it out for a corner.
36' The right-hand side has been very lucrative for Colombia, and it’s Arias on that flank who finds James with the key pass.
WHAT A GOAL BY JAMES RODRIGUEZ! 1-0 to Colombia after a stunning shot. Cuadrado takes on two defenders, dragging them out of position before laying it off to Arias who then finds James. The Bayern Munich midfielder takes a touch to get inside the area before turning around to lose his marker and curling a beautiful shot into the far corner of the goal. Steffen had no chance as the shot is taken with perfect accuracy. The away side lead!
35' Antonee Robinson is shown the second United States yellow card in quick succession – this time for a foul in midfield in an attempt to slow down the Colombia attack.
33' Bacca gets inside the penalty area after a long spell of possession from Colombia, but play is blown dead as the striker is unable to keep onside. That is a waste of some great build-up play.
32' Timothy Weah is shown the first yellow card of the match for a foul on James in midfield. Colombia opt to restart play quickly from the free-kick, looking to catch the USA defence out of position.
30' Acosta centres the ball to Saief who takes up a position in space just outside the penalty area. After taking a touch, he lets fly with a powerful shot that rises high and fails to trouble Ospina.
28' Acosta takes a free-kick from just inside Colombia’s half but his delivery has far too much power, and it rolls out of play beside the far post.
26' Steffen is quick off his line to rush to the feet of James who finds himself inside the penalty area after a superb cross-field pass from Cuadrado. The slippery surface ruins the chance however as the ball runs a little too far for the Bayern Munich midfielder.
24' It’s nominally a home match for the USA, but you would not be able to tell looking at the supporters in the stadium. The Raymond James Stadium seems to be filled with Colombia fans which will provide an awkward atmosphere for Sarachan’s side.
22' Bradley does well to step in and win the ball from James who isn’t being afforded too much time on the ball. The USA captain will need to put in a strong performance to exercise the ghosts of his last appearance – the infamous loss against Trinidad and Tobago during World Cup qualifying.
20' James takes a corner short to Cuadrado at the near post. The Juventus winger then lays it off to Arias who chips it to the far post for Murillo who tries an acrobatic overhead kick which misses the net entirely.
18' Falcao gets some room on the right and puts a cross into the box for Bacca who meets it with his head, but the striker sends it just over. Steffen is quickly off his line which could have put the striker off slightly.
16' Saief takes the set-piece with his left foot and drives it low towards the near post, but a Colombia defender is there immediately to meet it with a volleyed clearance.
14' Saief is brought down from behind by Arias who gives away a free-kick on the left-hand side, just outside the penalty area.
12' Cuadrado looks to slip a pass through the United States defence for Falcao, but Acosta closes down immediately to win the ball, and Weah wins a free-kick while trying to bring the ball out of his own half.
10' Dangerous from Green who tries a shot from an audacious distance. The curler with his right foot narrowly misses the post but forces Ospina into a full-stretch dive to protect his goal nonetheless.
8' Colombia have found success down the right early in the match, with Arias and James giving Robinson a handful. Their two attempts at goal have come from through balls played down the right-back position – forcing Brooks to come across and defend in uncomfortable areas.
6' James attempts to curl a shot into the top corner from outside the area, but the shot hits the gloves of Steffen who palms it down before taking it off the bounce.
4' ALMOST FOR COLOMBIA! Robinson and Brooks make a mess of a clearance which allows Arias to get on the ball and float a cross to Falcao which the striker hammers just wide from inside the penalty area.
3' America start the match on the front foot, passing the ball through the Colombia midfield. They seem relatively composed despite Colombia’s early pressing.
1' The United States get the match underway!

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, the team news has been confirmed! Let's start with the home side!
Arturo Reyes is in interim charge of the side while the FA search for the best person to take the squad into 2019’s Copa America in Brazil. It appears as though Los Cafeteros won't take this international break lightly, as superstars including James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado have all been included in the 24-man squad.
Colombia is in a state of flux as well, after the departure of legendary manager Jose Pekerman. The Argentine’s contract was not extended by the Colombian FA after six years at the helm which included two World Cup knock-out stage appearances as well as quarter-final and semi-final exits in the Copa America.
Their performance against El Tri may not have been scintillating, but Tyler Adams’ first goal for the Stars and Stripes four minutes after an Angel Zaldivar red card brought the fans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville into the match nonetheless. They’ll need the support of the Tampa crowd if they are to overcome a Colombia side who have not lost in 90 minutes since the opening fixture of the World Cup.
A victory over North American rivals Mexico during the last international break has given the USA squad a bit of a boost after enduring a run of three friendly matches without a victory. Dave Sarachan remains in charge of the squad in a caretaker capacity and has maintained a philosophy centred around youth, with the next CONCACAF Gold Cup a year away.
