Minute   Description
That's all from us tonight folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
The hosts pick up their first victory of the season, whilst Rayo suffer a second straight defeat upon their return to the Spanish top division. Next up for Atletico is a trip to Celta Vigo, whilst Rayo will return home where they will face Athletic Bilbao.
Atletico score the only goal of the game thanks to Antoine Griezmann midway through the second half. The hosts managed to hold onto the victory, despite a late charge by Rayo who created a couple of excellent goalscoring chances, but they were denied by a series of superb saves by Jan Oblak.
90'+2 FULL-TIME: ATLETICO MADRID 1-0 RAYO VALLECANO
90' There will be a minimum of two minutes added time played.
GREAT SAVE! Oblak pulls off a superb stop to deny Moreno an equalising goal! x drills a low ball into the area which is dummied by one Rayo player so it falls straight to the feet of Moreno on the six-yard box, he turns it towards goal but Oblak dives to his right and makes a great reaction save.
88' Koke is shown a yellow card late on for a strong tackle.
87' Rayo are getting closer! Another dangerous attack which almost sees Rayo grab an equaliser. Moreno skips past a couple of Atletico defenders and makes his way into the penalty area, squares it to Pozo who can't get his feet sorted out quick enough and he ends up toe poking the ball towards goal, which Oblak slides off his line to gather.
85' Free-kick to Rayo in an excellent shooting position around 25 yards out from goal. Embarba takes it, gets it over the wall but it's far too central and Oblak makes a comfortable save.
83' Almost an own goal! Savic is forced to defend a dipping ball into the box, he slices his clearance and luckily it goes wide of the goal and out for corner. From the resulting corner, Advíncula goes close from close range, getting on the end of the set piece but it clips the side netting.
81' This is much better from Rayo, they are dominating possession and are playing it nicely around the Atletico half, forcing the hosts to sit deep inside their own half. Atleti are known for their resilient 1-0 victories in all competitions, they are good at seeing games out.
79' Despite all of Rayo's good play here tonight, keeping the ball well in midfield and frustrating the hosts, Oblak hasn't been forced into making a single save for Atletico.
77' Rayo make their third and final substitution, with Alvaro Garcia replaced by Sergio Moreno.
76' That's Griezmann's last action of the game as he is replaced by Gelson Martins, in Atletico's final change of the evening.
75' Advíncula fouls Griezmann just past the halfway line, as the striker tried to break forward on the counter. The Rayo doesn't look very happy with that decision, he believes he won the ball before taking down the man.
71' The home supporters behind the attacking Atletico goal are in fine voice now that their side have taken the lead. The hosts look comfortable right now, keeping the ball nicely in midfield but they need to wary of the Rayo counter-attacks.
69' The first of a double substitution by Rayo, with Comesana replaced by Pozo.
The second change sees Kakuta heading off the pitch and he has been replaced by Medran.
68' Will that goal now kick Atletico into life and see them go onto win this game comfortably? It has certainly taken the wind out of Rayo, they would've been more than happy with a point away from home before the game.
66' Atletico make their second change of the evening, with Correa heading off the pitch and he has been replaced by Koke.
63' Savic met the ball well in the box, trying to head it towards goal but instead he flicks it on perfectly to Griezmann at the far post.
GOOOAAALLL! ATLETICO LEAD 1-1! Griezmann with a real poachers goal to put his side ahead. The corner ball came into the box which was flicked on by Savic and then tapped in by Griezmann at the far post, who managed to hold off his marker to fire the ball into the back of the net from a couple of yards out.
61' Griezmann tries his luck from distance, but he drags his shot well wide of the Rayo goal. A poor effort and Atletico look short of ideas.
59' CHANCE! A decent opportunity for Rayo as they carve open a shooting chance after catching Atletico off guard and they outnumber them in attack. Moreno cuts inside from the left, gets to the byline and pulls the ball back to Garcia on the edge of the area, but he fires his shot high over the crossbar.
57' Costa goes down under pressure from Ba after a long ball over the top of the Rayo defence. The defender nudges the striker out of the way right on the edge of the area, but the referee isn't interested. A frustrating evening so far for Costa.
55' Despite their dominance they are still yet to test Garcia in the Rayo goal and the home supporters are starting to get a little frustrated, as Rayo look pretty comfortable. A few Atletico players are warming up on the sidelines, so we could be about to see another Atletico change.
53' It's been all Atletico so far, they are camped inside the Rayo half and their opponents are having to sit deep in order to soak up the pressure and not allow gaps to appear in behind.
49' Despite the lack of action on the pitch, the atmosphere has been excellent inside the Wanda Metropolitano, with both sets of supporters really getting behind their teams in this Madrid derby.
47' Atletico have started the second half on the front foot, with Lemar getting a low cross into the box and it falls to Griezmann, who takes a swing at the ball, but he gets it all wrong and totally misses the ball!
46' The second half is underway!
Simeone will be hoping for a much better performance from his side in the second period. They forced Garcia into making a good save late on but certainly haven't done as much in the final third as they would've liked, with Griezmann and Costa unable to cause any problems.
It's goalless here at the Wanda Metropolitano, a game that has lacked any goalscoring chances and pace so we haven't seen many attacking moves. Rayo have performed much better tonight then they did last weekend, they don't look overawed by the opposition and look dangerous going forward, especially on the counter.
45'+2 HALF-TIME: ATLETICO 0-0 RAYO
45' PENALTY SHOUT! Costa flicks the ball past Trejo, but it strikes the arm of the Rayo man. The referee isn't interested, but when the ball goes out for a throw-in a couple of seconds later, the referee signals that VAR are looking into the incident. The replays show that it did strike the arm of Trejo, but it wasn't deliberate and there was no way he could get out of the way of the ball.
There will be a minimum of two minutes of added time.
43' Costa has been pretty isolated so far, Rayo have done an excellent job of keeping him quiet and also limiting the threats of Lemar and Correa down the flanks.
41' Atletico have taken their foot off the throttle in these last 10 minutes or so, with Rayo enjoying more and more possession but much of it is in the middle of the pitch and not troubling the Atletico final third.
39' Not long to go until the break now, can either side take the lead before the half-time whistle? It's a very even game at the moment, with both teams unable to carve out any goalscoring chances.
37' GOOD SAVE! Garcia is called into action and has to make two strong saves to deny Atletico. Partey Thomas first from the edge of the box, the keeper manages to push the ball out wide but it falls straight to Correa who tries to curl the ball into the bottom corner, but Garcia makes another good save. However, the linesman has his flag up for offside, so it wouldn't have couldn't anyway.
36' Atletico are forced into making an early substitution, with Juanfran coming off and he has been replaced by Partey Thomas.
31' Midway through the first half and no goalscoring chances for either team as of yet. We've now got a stoppage in play for a cooling break, which the officials have been told to implement shortly after the half an hour mark.
29' Alvaro is shown the first yellow card of the game, for his challenge on Correa.
28' Alvaro hacks down Correa right on the touchline, handing Atletico yet another free-kick in the final third and the opportunity to get the ball into the penalty area.
26' Atletico have a free-kick around 25 yards out from goal after Moreno clips the heels of Costa. The hosts try and take a clever short free-kick to work a shooting opportunity, but they get it totally wrong and Rayo can't believe their luck! They race up the pitch on the counter, but are stopped by a strong Rodrigo tackle.
24' You wouldn't think that Rayo were a newly promoted side the way they are playing at the moment, you could've expected them to sit back and invite the Atletico pressure, but so far, Oblak's goal has seen the most action.
22' Despite Atletico now starting to dominate the game, Rayo are holding their own and look comfortable at the back, a much better performance then last weekend when they suffered a heavy opening day defeat against Valencia.
20' Costa wins a free-kick deep inside the Rayo half, close to the corner flag after Ba got too close and pushed the Atletico striker over. Griezmann whips it into the area, but once again Rayo head away the danger and the chance goes away.
16' Saul is the main man pulling the strings in the Atletico midfield, he is constantly on the ball and dictating the hosts attack. However, Rayo are defending well, staying compact and not allowing those dangerous Atletico attackers the time to carve them open.
14' Griezmann is dropping deep to get on the ball which is allowing more space for Costa to exploit and be the main striker in this team. So far they have struggled to get the ball into the Rayo final third, especially with the visitors playing a strong high line, which has already caught Costa offside after his run in behind.
12' The visitors are keeping the ball well and are causing the Atletico defence a few problems with their quick breaks forward. Meanwhile Atleti are struggling to string a few passes together as Rayo are pressing very high up the pitch and not allowing the hosts any time or space on the ball.
10' A few players are struggling to keep their footing here, the pitch isn't in the best condition as the ground staff have had to replace certain strips of the pitch, which is causing players to slip over.
8' Rayo have started well, they don't look overawed by their opponents at all and are going for it already. Embarba is causing a few problems done both flanks, he attempts a curling effort from the edge of the box but it drifts narrowly wide of the goal, with Oblak looking worried at one point.
6' Atletico win their first corner, which Griezmann takes short, before they eventually get a ball into the penalty area. It bounces around the box, with a couple of Atletico players swinging boots at the ball. It eventually falls to Saul on the edge of the area but his effort is blocked.
4' Rayo keep the ball alive, winning a throw-in deep down the left. Comesana manages to get a cross into the box, which is met by Embarba but he doesn't get enough pace on his header and Oblak sees the ball go well wide of his goal.
2' Rayo win an early corner and the first of the game after Savic sees the ball out of play. The corner is whipped into the box and flicked on at the near post, but Atletico manage to clear the ball.
1' We're underway!
The teams are out here and kick-off is just a few minutes away! Stay tuned for all of the match action.

Let's take a look at the teams...
The visitors face the almighty task of trying to cope with the attacking threat of Simeone’s strengthened squad, especially after a poor opening game performance against Valencia, as they lost 4-1 at home, to bring them back to reality after securing the Segunda Division title last season. They were relegated from the top division back in 2016 and after two seasons away, they now make their return.
The Wanda Metropolitano was a fortress last season as Atletico only suffered one league defeat at home in their new stadium and that came towards the end of the season, when Diego Simone's side had started to concentrate on the Europa League, which they went on to win.
After an entertaining 1-1 draw against Valencia last week, Atletico return home for the first time this season with the task of overcoming newly promoted Rayo Vallecano.
Good evening and welcome to our live match commentary of the LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.
