Commentary

Minute   Description
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Leicester secure their second win on the bounce in the Premier League thanks to Harry Maguire's late winner. Southampton are winless to start the term, although they did take the lead through a stunning strike from Ryan Bertrand. Their lead lasted just three minutes as Demarai Gray equalised for the visitors. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's dismissal for simulation turned the game in favour of Leicester. They had to wait until stoppage time to snatch the three points, but Maguire's strike allowed them to clinch the win on the road.
90'+5 FULL-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 1-2 LEICESTER
Redmond takes the free-kick and his effort hits the wall before travelling behind. There's no time for the resulting corner.
90'+4 Southampton have one final chance to rescue a point from a 30 yard free-kick.
90'+3 Maguire is booked for his celebration.
90'+2 Albrighton offloads to Maguire, who does the rest with his finish from distance.
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! A SUPER STRIKE FROM MAGUIRE!!!!!!! LEICESTER 2-1!!!! The Foxes snatch the game at the death as the England man buries an effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards. Maguire is in support on the left flank and cuts inside to shoot on his right foot. It travels through a crowd of players in the box and McCarthy is unsighted as the ball travels into the bottom corner.
90'+1 A foul by Morgan in the final third allows the Saints to take further time off the clock.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
89' Southampton win a second corner, which Schmeichel flaps at. Soares collects and goes for the drive from distance, but he hammers his effort wide of the post.
88' Gray is withdrawn for Okazaki.
Maguire concedes a cheap corner, failing to clear the danger from his own box. Will the Saints make him pay?
86' Armstrong replaces Long for the home side.
The Saints are attempting to take the pace out of the game. Leicester are going to have to force the tempo in the closing stages.
85' SAVE! Albrighton rolls the ball into Gray, who feeds Amartey for a strike at goal. He gets the power on his strike, but McCarthy get his body behind the ball to make the stop.
83' Leicester are attempting to turn the screw in the final third, but the Saints are holding firm with 10 men for now.
81' Chilwell makes a surging run down the left flank and he goes for the strike, but the Saints get men back to make the decisive block, sending the ball out for a corner.
79' Elyounoussi is sacrificed for the home side as Romeu comes on to fill Hojbjerg's void in the midfield.
78' Ghezzal replaces Maddison for the visitors.
77' OFF! Hojbjerg is dismissed for a second bookable offence for simulation. It's extremely poor from the midfielder as he goes down under no contact in the box. Ndidi and Amartey were in the area, but did not touch Hojbjerg. The referee spots the dive and acts to dismiss the Southampton man.
76' Morgan battles Long on the flank to prevent the Saints capitalising on a counter. A fine defensive challenge from the Leicester skipper.
74' Maddison curls his delivery deep towards the back post, but McCarthy comes off his line to punch clear of danger.
73' Elyounoussi brings down Chilwell on the flank, handing the Foxes a decent position to swing a free-kick into the box.
71' Soares plays a loose pass and then doubles down on his mistake by fouling Chilwell. The Portuguese has not had a good second half.
69' Ings has played well, but now he makes way for Austin for the final 20 minutes.
67' Iheanacho makes way for Albrighton, which may see Gray take over the central striking role.
Frustration gets the better of Lemina after chasing down a long ball over the top. He kicks out a microphone behind the goal.
66' Since opening the scoring the Saints have been extremely poor. They've allowed Leicester to take complete control of the match. Hughes may have to look to his bench here.
64' Betrand goes into the book for the home side.
63' Maddison tries to surge forward through the midfield, but gets pulled back by Bertrand, who was caught out of position.
61' Ndidi sends a low ball into the box for the Foxes. McCarthy spills the ball into the middle of the box, but Lemina is on hand to prevent Iheanacho pouncing on the penalty spot. A crucial intervention from the Saints midfielder.
60' Leicester have found their feet in the contest and are beginning to dictate terms in possession.
58' Gray surges forward down the left and opts not to shoot from the edge of the box. He slides in Chilwell, but the defender's cross is blocked by Soares.
56' GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! GRAY EQUALISES!!! LEICESTER ARE BACK IN THE GAME 1-1!!!!! Out of nothing the Foxes are back on level terms. Pereira's cross to the back post is headed straight back into danger by Soares. Gray pounces on the ball, striking a low right-footed effort into the bottom corner past McCarthy. A crisp strike from the winger.
54' Leicester recycle possession in the final third, but Ndidi lines up an ambitious strike from distance. He pulls his effort well wide of the post. A poor effort from the midfielder.
52' GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! BERTRAND SCORES A SCREAMER!!! SOUTHAMPTON 1-0!!!!! Bertrand latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the box and has only one thought in his mind. He catches his strike sweetly and it soars into the top corner of the net, leaving Schmeichel with no chance. A super strike from the Saints skipper.
51' SAVE! Leicester finally test McCarthy as Pereira lines up a strike from the right inside channel, but it's a comfortable stop for the Saints keeper.
50' Elyounoussi whips a dangerous corner into the box that Schmeichel fails to punch clear. Fortunately it bounces favourable for the Foxes, allowing the visitors to clear the danger.
48' SAVE! Bertrand releases the run of Ings in the left inside channel and the forward goes for the first-time strike on the slide, but Schmeichel is sharp off his line to narrow the angle to make the block.
47' Iheanacho weaves his way through a crowd of players on the edge of the box, but before he can shoot Hoedt makes a solid challenge.
46' We're back underway at St Mary's Stadium.
Claude Puel will not be too disappointed by the scoreline, although the performances of his players in the final third will not have impressed the Frenchman. James Maddison, Demarai Gray and Ricardo Pereira have not clicked, leaving Kelechi Iheanacho a frustrated figure.
It's goalless at the break between Southampton and Leicester at St Mary's Stadium. The Saints came closest to notching a breakthrough just before half-time when Danny Ings was denied by a good save from Kasper Schmeichel. Both teams struggled for quality in the final third for the majority of the opening period, especially from set-pieces. Southampton have been the better of the two sides, but Mark Hughes will want to see more from his team.
45'+2 HALF-TIME: SOUTHAMPTON 0-0 LEICESTER
45'+1 SAVE! Redmond rolls the ball into the path of Ings, who turns and curls a low strike towards the bottom corner. Schmeichel sees it late, but gets down to make the stop, palming the ball away from Long.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
Maddison has space on the counter, with Gray and Iheanacho in support. However, he fails to pick out a team-mate in the final third, wasting a great opportunity.
43' INCHES AWAY! Chilwell is afforded space and time down the left to whip a cross into the box. His delivery is perfect for Iheanacho, but it's just out of the reach of the forward on the stretch with his right foot. Close for the Foxes.
41' Bertrand loses out to Ndidi in the middle of the park, but the midfielder fails to release Iheanacho in the final third. His offload was well off target.
39' Maguire has to be there on the spot to prevent Elyounoussi's knockback finding Ings in the middle. The England man times his intervention to perfection.
38' CLOSE! Leicester break down the left flank through Gray. The Foxes recycle possession to allow Chilwell to fire a cross to the near post. Gray makes the late run, but Soares gets a foot on the cross to change its trajectory. The winger cannot react in time to steer an effort goalbound.
37' A mistake by Amartey puts Morgan under pressure. Southampton close around the visitors, with Ings taking possession. However, Ndidi is there to mop up the opening, putting in a strong challenge.
35' Redmond goes on the charge and cuts in on his right foot. However, as he looks to shoot, Mendy and Morgan close to block off the angle. Mendy gets his foot on the ball to clear the danger.
34' Puel will not too disappointed with the scoreline at present. Although his team have been on the back foot, they've been pretty solid at the back.
32' Southampton win their seventh corner of the half. Elyounoussi floats his delivery in from the right flank, but it sails over the head of Vestergaard in the middle.
30' Both teams are struggling for quality in the final third. There has not been a moment of magic to unlock either defence.
28' The Saints win another set-piece and on this occasion Vestergaard rises to head at goal, but he can only guide his effort wide of the post.
27' Chilwell floats a cross into the Southampton box, but both Maguire and Morgan fail to attack the ball.
26' Hojbjerg goes into the book for his challenge on Maddison.
Leicester break on the counter and Hojbjerg has to act to bring down Maddison on the charge. Gray is not happy with Maddison after failing to spot him free on the left. Leicester have a free-kick just inside the Saints' half.
24' Elyounoussi has struggled with his set-pieces thus far this afternoon. Leicester are able to clear their lines once again from his delivery from the left.
23' Redmond and Bertrand combine down the left flank, and this time Morgan has to get across to make the covering tackle. Southampton have another corner.
21' Pereira leads a counter for the Foxes. He drives down the right inside channel and looks for the cutback towards Maddison, but Hoedt makes the interception to clear behind for a corner.
20' SAVE! Elyounoussi takes the corner, but the set-piece is cleared back to him. Elyounoussi gathers the loose ball and cuts inside to shoot low towards the near post. Schmeichel gets down to make the stop, but he cannot hold the strike. Lemina tries an acrobatic effort, but fails to make contact.
19' The Saints continue to pressure down the left flank, winning another corner on the wing.
17' Redmond feeds the ball into Long on the edge of the box. Ndidi makes contact with a tackle, but the referee waves play on with the forward on the deck.
15' Maguire does well to cover at the back, guiding the ball out of play under pressure from Ings.
14' OVER! The Foxes win a corner down the left flank, which is delivered into the box by Maddison. Ndidi makes a run to the near post to attack the cross, only to head his effort over the bar.
12' Redmond makes a burst behind the Leicester defensive line down the left flank. He sends a cross towards the near post for Long's run, but Maguire is there to clear behind for a corner ahead of the forward.
11' The Saints are doing all of the early pressing, but the visitors are keeping them away from Schmeichel's goal at the moment.
9' Redmond tries to release the run of Bertrand down the left flank, but the former overhits his throughball out of play for a goal-kick.
8' Southampton win a free-kick on the right flank. Elyounoussi stands the ball up into the box, but the Foxes hold firm at the back to clear the danger at the first attempt. Hojbjerg tries to send a cross back into the area, although he's closed down by Pereira.
6' Pereira makes a run into the final third after combining with Chilwell and Maddison. However, the Portuguese fails to take the ball in stride from the full-back's low cross into the box.
4' Ndidi does well on the edge of his own box to deny both Redmond and Hojbjerg, who had made promising runs into the final third.
2' Elyounoussi is caught offside from a return pass from the short corner.
1' Redmond makes a break down the left inside channel to latch on to a knockdown from Ings. Morgan is there to stop his progress, although he concedes a corner.
We're underway at St Mary's Stadium.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
Puel has made three changes to the team that beat Wolves last week. Morgan comes back into the side in the back four to replace Evans, while Amartey is given the nod over Marc Albrighton at full-back. Iheanacho replaces Vardy, who serves the first game of his suspension.
Southampton have made four changes to their side from their defeat to Everton. Vestergaard, Elyounoussi, Hojbjerg and Long come into the fold for the Saints, with Stephens, Austin, Ward-Prowse and Romeu dropping to the bench.
Leicester subs: Jonny Evans, Marc Albrighton, Danny Ward, Shinji Okazaki, Adrien Silva, Christian Fuchs, Rachid Ghezzal.
LEICESTER (4-2-3-1): Kasper Schmeichel; Daniel Amartey, Wes Morgan, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell; Nampalys Mendy, Wilfred Ndidi; Ricardo Pereira, James Maddison, Demarai Gray; Kelechi Iheanacho.
Southampton subs: Jack Stephens, Steven Davis, Charlie Austin, Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Stuart Armstrong, Angus Gunn.
SOUTHAMPTON (4-4-2): Alex McCarthy; Cedric Soares, Jannik Vestergaard, Wesley Hoedt, Ryan Bertrand; Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Mario Lemina, Mohamed Elyounoussi; Danny Ings, Shane Long.
Let's take a look at the two teams this afternoon.
Leicester were beaten by Manchester United on the opening day of the season, although Claude Puel's men put forward a decent performance at Old Trafford. An own goal from Matt Doherty and a first Foxes goal for James Maddison secured their first win of the campaign, defeating Wolves at the King Power Stadium last week. Jamie Vardy's dismissal put Leicester under pressure in the second half, but they were still able to clinch the points to get off the mark.
Southampton are winless in their opening two matches of the season. The Saints were held to a goalless draw against Burnley in their opener before being defeated by Everton on the road last time out. Danny Ings got off the mark in the loss to the Toffees at Goodison Park, and he will be hopeful of finding another goal to notch his side's first victory of the campaign.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Southampton and Leicester at St Mary's Stadium.
