Minute   Description
That concludes our coverage of the Ligue 1 fixture between PSG and Angers. We hope you enjoyed the match and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
Next up for PSG is a trip to the Stade des Costieres where they visit hosts Nimes, whiles Angers will look to bounce back at home on Saturday against Lille.
The gap in quality really showed today with Angers visibly working hard, but to no effect – save for a 90th-minute N’Doye strike which struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced out. A number of posts struck, and miscued shots saved Butelle from possibly allowing more. It will certainly be a difficult season for Angers following the sale of their main striker, but Stephane Moulin needs to find a way to get this offence firing.
If Angers had any hope of taking something from the match, it was quickly erased following the restart. PSG took full control of the match in the second period with Mbappe popping up everywhere, scoring the lead-restoring goal before delivering Neymar an assist on a silver platter. Angers barely had a kick in the final 45, which is a disappointment following their rather fortunate half-time position.
90'+1 Neymar cuts onto his left foot just outside the penalty area looking to curl one into the far corner, but Angers close down well to win the ball. At the other end, N'Doye gets into the PSG penalty area and smashes a chance against the crossbar! The away side have finally woken up, with two minutes left in the match.
90' The referee has indicated an additional three minutes at the end of the match.
87' Butelle makes a wonderful leg save on Mbappe who was racing top-speed towards the goal. The danger isn’t over however as PSG have a corner which is taken short.
85' Thiago Silva will see out the match despite his earlier scare, as PSG use their final substitution to bring Julian Draxler on in place of Angel Di Maria.
83' Problems for PSG here as Thiago Silva remains down on the grass following a collision between the defender and Areola. The captain is receiving treatment, but he looks to be in real discomfort.
82' Stephane Moulin makes his final roll of the dice as Pierrick Capelle is replaced by Rayan Ait Nouri.
80' El Melali wins the ball from Kimpembe and bursts into the PSG penalty area only for the referee to blow the play dead for a foul on the Angers striker – much to his disappointment.
78' Tait floats a free-kick to the back post looking for Pavlovic – the towering defender. Areola beats him to the ball however and plucks it out of the air.
76' Jeff Reine-Adelaide is replaced by Farid El Melali as Moulin attempts to find a way back into the match.
75' Mbappe sends Neymar through on goal with a beautifully disguised pass, but Butelle rushes out of his net to close the angle and block Neymar from scoring a second.
73' Thomas Tuchel calls Edinson Cavani to the bench, switching him with Christopher Nkunku for the final 15 minutes of the match.
70' Tait gets into the penalty area for the first time in the second half but is immediately dispossessed by Rabiot who is really working hard tracking back to his own penalty area today.
68' PSG’s phenomenal passing today has really stood out and allowed their strikers to get into all kinds of space. The one-two pass involving Mbappe just before Neymar’s goal was just a glimpse into a style that the Parisians have been employing well under Tuchel.
66' Kylian Mbappe now has a goal and an assist to his name today after his unselfish pass allowed Neymar to double PSG's advantage with 25 minutes left in the match.
NEYMAR MAKES IT THREE! Kylian Mbappe turns provider for Neymar’s goal after the young French striker gets free in the penalty area following a beautiful one-two pass with Rabiot. From there, Mbappe has the awareness to look up and see Neymar streaking towards goal and supply the former Barcelona forward with a centring pass - which Neymar makes no mistake with! 3-1 PSG!
65' Di Maria slips Cavani into the penalty area after a PSG counter-attack but the striker’s first-time curling effort is horribly miscued and ends up in the stands.
63' Stanley N’Soki is shown a yellow card by the referee for a heavy challenge in midfield on Jeff Reine-Adelaide.
61' Angelo Fulgini has not been involved at all today and will be withdrawn with 30 minutes to play. Wilfried Kanga is his replacement.
59' Neymar thinks two or three times about hitting a shot from outside the area but pulls back every time and is eventually dispossessed at the edge of the box. PSG quickly return the ball into Angers’ half and restart the attack.
57' Di Maria is once again involved as he receives an Mbappe pass with his back-to-goal before turning and firing a quick strike towards goal which is blocked out for a corner-kick. Neymar takes the set-piece, but it fails to beat the first man and the ball is cleared all the way back to Areola.
55' Di Maria swings in a corner towards the back post, but much too far for Mbappe to latch onto and the ball dribbles out harmlessly for a goal-kick.
51' Angel Di Maria deserves a lot of credit for spotting the run of Mbappe, and sending a perfectly weighted ball towards him. A well-crafted assist from the Argentina winger!
KYLIAN MBAPPE RESTORES PSG’S LEAD! After some incredible passing in midfield, the ball comes to Angel Di Maria who sends a cross to the far edge of the penalty area where Mbappe waits, left all alone. With the ball dropping, the young striker swings a leg at it and connects magnificently with the first-time volley, placing the ball absolutely perfectly into the far corner – the one spot Butelle could not get to! Incredible goal from the youngster!
48' N'Soki sends a cross into the penalty area for Cavani who gets a touch to it which sends the linesman’s flag up instantly as the striker did not stay onside.
46' The new signing’s day is done as Thilo Kehrer is hooked at the interval for Stanley N'Soki. Kehrer’s yellow card – the only caution of the game – was surely weighing on the mind of Tuchel.
PSG restart the match from the kick-off!
Angers saw much less of the ball in the first half and were limited to a handful of rapid counter-attacks – one of which birthed the penalty. Stephane Moulin will head into the interval happy with the scoreline, but fully aware that PSG’s attacking threat will not let off – especially with the likes of Julian Draxler and Giovani Lo Celso waiting to enter the match.
While PSG have certainly looked the better side, they have allowed Angers back into the match following some relaxed defending. Edinson Cavani’s opening goal should probably have been doubled two minutes later, with the Uruguay striker putting his header off the post. Thilo Kehrer’s reckless slide in the penalty area allowed Mangani to equalise from the penalty spot having not troubled Areola at all previously.
45' Angers have their first corner of the match which is an in-swinger towards N’Doye. The midfielder doesn’t make contact but Areola fumbles the catch – inviting the attack, but the goalkeeper ultimately makes up for his error and secures it in his grasp.
43' Neymar brilliantly lifts it over a defender for Di Maria, who flicks the ball in similar fashion for Mbappe with his back to a defender. The pass isn’t dealt with well by the striker however, who fails to control with his thigh and instead uses his arm. The referee spots the infringement and awards Angers a free-kick.
41' Kimpembe holds the ball on the left before recycling it back into Thiago Silva who is pushed very high up. PSG are building a very calculated attack at the minute, with less than five minutes to play in the first half.
37' Tait whips in a free-kick from just inside PSG’s half, but the service is poor and Thiago Silva rises highest to get rid of the danger.
35' Neymar receives a pass in a central position, just ahead of the penalty area and switches it immediately to the right for Meunier, but Capelle gets a touch and puts it out for a corner. PSG’s attack ends as Rabiot fouls Traore in a scrap for the loose ball.
33' Kehrer’s earlier mistake hasn’t weakened his resolve as he goes flying into a slide which dispossesses Tait and sends the ball out for a throw-in.
31' A CHANCE FOR MBAPPE AT THE OTHER END! Quite eventful happenings as following Reine-Adelaide’s chance, Mbappe gets played through on goal after PSG hit on the counter. Butelle gets to his near post quickly and blocks the eventual shot out for a corner, with the set-piece coming to nothing.
29' FANTASTIC SAVE BY AREOLA! Reine-Adelaide receives a pass which sends him through on goal, bursting past two markers in the process. Areola cuts the angle well from in close and gets a touch with his foot which sends it looping in the air – but it’s the goalkeeper himself who gets to the rebound first.
27' Tait sees goal and strikes towards it, firing a shot which winds up not troubling Areola at all thanks to a very comfortable bounce.
25' Mangani gives the ball away on the left after trying to force several passes through three PSG markers. Rabiot wins possession ultimately and heads towards Butelle, but his rushed cross is caught easily by the Angers keeper.
23' Despite not having troubled Areola at all in the opening 20 minutes of the match, Angers find themselves level with the French champions after just under a half-hour. An unexpected, but not an unwelcome sight for the travelling fans. Their team must do better to earn the result, however, as PSG are looking quite sharp.
21' THOMAS MANGANI MAKES NO MISTAKE! 1-1 at the Parc des Princes as Mangani wires his penalty high to the goalkeeper’s right, while Areola went the other way. The away side have been given a lifeline!
PENALTY TO ANGERS! A tough start for the new PSG defender as Thilo Kehrer takes down Jeff Reine-Adelaide in the penalty area after a Mangani cross following the throw-in. Kehrer is shown a yellow card and Angers have a chance to level!
20' N’Doye ventures to just in front of the penalty area and fires a blistering shot which is blocked out for an Angers throw-in.
18' PSG’s passing is quite silky today, with the midfield eager to link-up with Neymar and exchange the ball in neat triangles. Angers have quite the task at hand at the Parc des Princes.
16' Meunier heads away a Manceau cross but the ball comes to Tait who puts it back in the box for N’Doye. The midfielder connects with his head but puts it right in the chest of Areola who clutches safely as he goes to ground.
14' CAVANI OFF THE POST! Neymar this time appears on the left and fires a cross to the head of Cavani who meets it beautifully and smacks his chance off the woodwork! Very close to 2-0 PSG!
12' AND EDINSON CAVANI MAKES IT 1-0 PSG! Thiago Silva steps up in midfield to win the ball and sends a pass through for Neymar which catches the entire Angers side off-guard. Neymar sends a low cross into the penalty area originally for Mbappe, but after Traore’s slight touch, it falls to Cavani who taps it home!
10' Di Maria slips past Fulgini after some nifty footwork on the left-hand side, but the cross is poor and cleared by Capelle at the back post.
8' Pavlovic clears the ball after Butelle gets hands to an off-balance Cavani shot. Meunier’s over-the-top pass works to perfection to free the Uruguay striker in the penalty area, but Angers do just enough to clear.
6' Santamaria turns the ball over to Marquinhos in midfield – a great recovery from the PSG player working in a slightly different position today.
4' PSG enter this match with a slight tactical alteration – operating with three centre-backs including new signing Thilo Kehrer. Thomas Tuchel has also chosen to use one of his more experienced defenders, Marquinhos, in a midfield position.
2' Reine-Adelaide gets free of Kimpembe but the shot from outside the area is well-wide of Areola’s goal.
1' Angers get the match underway from the kick-off under the Parisian sun!
Angers make only two changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Rennes, and switch from a 4-3-3 to a 4-1-4-1. In midfield, Cheikh N'Doye takes the place of Vincent Pajot while up front, Jeff Reine-Adelaide will be tasked with scoring as he takes Wilfried Kanga’s spot in attack.
Thomas Tuchel makes 5 changes from the side that beat Guingamp 3-1 as well as a change from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3. Areola starts in goal over Buffon, while Kehrer takes the place of Colin Dagba in defence. Antoine Bernede and Christopher Nkunku make way for Kimpembe and Cavani, while Kylian Mbappe returns to the starting XI in place of Timothy Weah.
Angers substitutes: Mathieu Michel, Harisson Manzala Tusumgama, Cheikh N'Doye, Jeff Reine-Adelaide, Romain Thomas, Abdoulaye Bamba, Wilfried Kanga, Farid El Melali, Rayan Ait Nouri.
Angers Starting XI (4-1-4-1): Ludovic Butelle; Vincent Manceau, Ismael Traore, Mateo Pavlovic, Pierrick Capelle; Baptiste Santamaria; Angelo Fulgini, Cheikh N'Doye, Thomas Mangani, Flavien Tait; Jeff Reine-Adelaide.
PSG substitutes: Moussa Diaby, Stanley N'Soki, Giovani Lo Celso, Lassana Diarra, Christopher Nkunku, Gianluigi Buffon, Julian Draxler.
PSG Starting XI (3-4-3): Alphonse Areola; Presnel Kimpembe, Thiago Silva, Thilo Kehrer; Angel Di Maria, Adrian Rabiot, Marquinhos, Thomas Meunier; Edinson Cavani, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, the team news has been announced! Let’s begin with the home side.
Last season’s top scorer for Angers – Karl Toko Ekambi – has since moved on to pastures new, leaving the Stade Raymond Kopa for Villarreal and subsequently CS Concordia Chiajna in Romania. The 17 goals he scored last season was 13 more than second place for the club – Flavien Tait with four.
Former Angers player Stephane Moulin has a difficult task this season keeping his side in France’s top tier of professional football in his eighth year as manager of the club. Les Scoistes have spent the last three seasons in Ligue 1 after spending the previous 20 years bouncing around Ligue 2 and the Championnat National – France’s third division.
An injury bug has hit the Paris locker-room, with no less than four players sidelined with various physical niggles. Dani Alves, Layvin Kurzawa and Marco Verratti, as well as Alec Georgen are all doubts for the match today – though there is more than enough quality in Thomas Tuchel’s side to make up for the absences.
PSG continued their fantastic start to their domestic campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory at Guingamp last Saturday after an opening-day destruction of Caen 3-0. Buffon once again featured for the Parisians over Alphonse Areola, but he could not help his side to a second-consecutive clean sheet thanks to a 20th-minute opener from Nolan Roux. Mbappe’s double and a Neymar penalty kick put the result beyond doubt, however.
Good afternoon and welcome to our LIVE commentary of the Ligue 1 fixture between PSG and Angers from the Parc des Princes in Paris.
