Manchester City advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but they suffered their first defeat at the Etihad Stadium this season. Gabriel Jesus put the home side ahead, but Mohamed Elyounoussi fired home an equaliser. City struggled for rhythm in the second half and were punished when Michael Lang fired home to hand Raphael Wicky's men the victory on the night. Pep Guardiola was not happy with his team's performance, which will serve as a warning for the rest of the campaign.

It's all square at the break on the night at the Etihad Stadium, although there appears to be no doubt that Manchester City will advance with ease into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The home side took the lead in the eighth minute when Gabriel Jesus converted Bernardo Silva's low cross from close range. However, Basel hit back through Mohamed Elyounoussi, who found the net with a volleyed finish inside the box. The visitors have held their own this evening, with City far from their best. Pep Guardiola will want to see an improvement from his side in the second period.

40' City have been very open at the back this evening, especially down the right flank. Guardiola will not be pleased with Danilo's performance thus far.
39' Basel open up the home side down the left flank and Riveros goes for the strike towards the near post, but Bravo gets down to make the save.
36' BLOCK! Gundogan swings a cross into the box and Laporte wins the initial header. It bounces back to Foden for a strike at goal, but he misses his kick completely. Toure takes over, but Frei makes the block to prevent the ball reaching the target.
34' Zinchenko offloads to Sane down the left, but the German runs out of space for a cross into the box, lifting his attempt behind for a goal-kick.
32' CHANCE! Elyounoussi breaks free of Danilo once again and evades his challenge in the box. However, he cannot hold his composure, scuffing his strike at goal well wide of the target.
31' WIDE! Oberlin curls his free-kick over the two-man wall, but his strike hits the side-netting. Bravo had the effort covered all the way.
30' Elyounoussi breaks down the left on the counter and is brought down on the edge of the box by Danilo. The referee awards a free-kick to the visitors.
29' BLOCK! Gundogan opens up the Basel defence down the left and Sane collects in the inside channel. He cannot round Vaclik so he cuts it back for Gundogan, but Frei makes the block to deny the German.
28' Gundogan tries to thread a pass into the box for the run of Danilo, only to be denied by an important intervention from Lacroix.
26' Oberlin has space to run down the left flank and he tries to cut back inside on his right foot, but Danilo puts in a good challenge to stop his progress.
24' Sane goes on the charge down the left inside channel. Pressure comes from Suchy and Lang, which forces the winger to send the ball out for a goal-kick.
23' Serey Die makes an offload into the final third for Elyounoussi, but he just cannot bring the ball under control to probe on the edge of the box.
21' Guardiola will not be pleased with his side's performance thus far. They have looked impressive in the final third, but their defending has been lax to say the least.
19' Bua almost releases the run of Oberlin behind Laporte, but the Spaniard makes a vital intervention to cut out the pass.
17' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! BASEL ARE LEVEL ON THE NIGHT! Elyounoussi keeps his composure in the City box to smash a strike past Bravo to notch an equaliser this evening. Riveros' run down the left was not stopped by the City defence. His low cross was deflected into the path of Elyounoussi, who took one touch to control before hammering his effort into the bottom corner.
16' SAVE! Gundogan should double City's lead as he latches on to Silva's cross at the back post. However, Vaclik comes off his line and makes the block to deny the German.
15' Foden raids forward with menace and slides a pass into the left inside channel for Jesus. However, the Brazilian's offload is loose and allows the visitors to clear their lines.
13' City look threatening every time they push forward in possession. Sane has started the game brilliantly down the left flank.
11' CHANCE! Sane bursts down the left flank and fires the ball low towards Silva in the box. The Portuguese misses the ball, but it deflects behind off the legs of Riveros on the slide.
10' OVER! Oberlin robs Zinchenko in the middle of the park and raids forward towards the edge of the box. He goes for the strike at goal, only to hammer his effort over the bar.
8' Silva collects Sane's offload and sends a threatening ball to the back post for Jesus to score.
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! CITY TAKE THE LEAD! Jesus converts at the back post from Bernardo Silva's low cross. Sane began the move with a surge across the edge of the box before feeding the Portuguese. He placed dangerous cross to the back stick, allowing Jesus to tap into an empty net with Vaclik stranded by the quality of the delivery.
6' Lang almost releases Bua over the top of the City defence, but the ball skips off the pitch and bounces into the hands of Bravo on the edge of the box.
4' Sane raids down the left and fires a low ball across the face of goal, but Vaclik is able to get down to gather at his near post.
2' Danilo looks for the ball in behind for Jesus, but the forward is not on the same page as his team-mate, allowing it to travel through to Vaclik.

Basel have made four changes from their defeat at the hands of Young Boys in their semi-final defeat last time out. Frei, Riveros, Elyounoussi and Bua are recalled into the starting line-up to face off against City.
Guardiola has opted to rest his key men this evening due to the comfort of their lead. City have made six changes to their side from their win over Chelsea at the weekend. Bravo comes into the side between the sticks, with Stones, Danilo, Toure, Foden and Jesus also coming into the side this evening.

Basel have dropped back-to-back matches since their defeat to City. They were defeated 2-0 by St Gallen on home soil in the Swiss Super League before losing their semi-final Schweizer Pokal clash to Young Boys. A strong performance is the minimum this evening for Raphael Wicky's men to build a semblance of confidence for the remainder of the campaign.
Guardiola's side have continued their march towards the Premier League title since their win in the first leg, defeating Arsenal and Chelsea. They also secured their first trophy of the campaign, winning the League Cup with a comfortable win over Arsenal. However, they also had a setback, losing to Wigan in the fifth round of the FA Cup. City will want to advance without any drama this evening.
City enter's tonight match with an overwhelming lead thanks to their fine performance in the first leg, putting four goals past the Swiss side on the road. A brace from Ilkay Gundogan along with strikes from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero secured the win, leaving Pep Guardiola's men with one foot in the quarter-finals.
