Minute   Description
Manchester United move to within five points of Manchester City with their win, who play tomorrow, but will be without Pogba for next weekend's derby. The Red Devils looked shaky at times and were fortunate with the result, though they too deserve credit for some spectacular performances in attack.
Arsenal's 12-match winning run at home in the Premier League comes to a close but the Gunners were unfortunate to be on the losing side today. Whilst they were guilty of defensive mistakes, which were ultimately the difference, Wenger's side were spectacular in attack. On another game they could have got five or six and it's clear today simply wasn't their day. Whilst it's a bitter blow, an inquest shouldn't follow and there's plenty of positives to take.
FULL-TIME! You could play that game 100 times again and get 100 different outcomes. Manchester United are the victors after taking advantage of three defensive mistakes from the Gunners, with goals from Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia. Arsenal got one back through Alexandre Lacazette and saw a decent chance for a penalty turned down, while Paul Pogba was sent off and will miss the Manchester derby.
90'+3 Final change of the game for Manchester United, with Young replaced by Marcus Rashford.
90'+2 Arsenal have been made to pay for defensive mistakes but they certainly haven't played in a way that suggests they deserve to lose this match. A mixture of bizarre incidents, spectacular saves from De Gea and a poor refereeing decision have certainly played their part.
90' PENALTY SHOUT! Again an appeal for a penalty as Rojo lunges in on Lacazette. You've seen them given but it would have been a tad harsh.
89' Alexis is also booked for his part in that incident.
There's an argument in the wake of that decision, with Herrera entering the book after arguing with Alexis.
88' PENALTY SHOUT! Was that the moment for Arsenal? Ozil plays Welbeck through and he cuts back, sent to ground following the challenge from Darmian. It's the first big decision that the referee has got wrong today and it could be decisive.
87' Yellow card for Koscielny, who hauled Lukaku to ground on the halfway line. He was the last man but it's not quite a clear cut opportunity as it's a long way out.
85' Manchester United have shut up shop following Pogba's dismissal and Arsenal look unable to claw their way back into the game. They do dominate possession though and all it takes is one chance...
83' SAVE! Welbeck's shot takes a deflection and loops towards goal, where De Gea tips over the bar. From the resulting corner, Alexis' delivery is very poor.
82' HANDBALL? Referee says no and he's right, Monreal's cross was poor anyway. The drama continues.
80' Arsenal throwing everything forward that they possibly can. United have everyone back. We still have ten minutes to play, the game has been crazy!
78' Arsenal now have Welbeck, Iwobi, Lacazette, Ozil and Alexis on the field. Going for broke!
76' Arsene Wenger also shows his hand, bringing on Giroud for Kolasinac.
Lingard won't get his hat-trick as it's another tactical change, with Darmian coming on.
Arsenal now have a man advantage and it's a huge loss for Manchester United in the coming weeks, with the Manchester derby next weekend.
74' RED CARD! Pogba gets his marching orders! The former most expensive man in the world comes in with his studs showing on Bellerin and it's a deserved dismissal. Pogba ironically applauds and may well be punished further for that.
72' First Arsenal booking of the game is given to Bellerin, who clatters through Young.
Koscielny bursts forward, winning a corner after Rojo puts the ball behind. Ozil is across to take but the delivery is again dealt with comfortably.
70' Manchester United made their intent clear with their change and Arsenal have now done the same, replacing Xhaka with Welbeck.
69' Arsenal set to make an attacking change but the game certainly doesn't seem to be going their way. It's going to take a miraculous recovery in the last twenty minutes or so for the Gunners to get anything from this game.
67' First Manchester United change of the game sees Mourinho look to tidy things up. Martial is replaced, with Ander Herrera entering the fold.
65' SAVE! De Gea again forced into action, with Alexis Sanchez firing at goal.
Well, that could be the deciding goal. Arsenal defensively poor again and it's again Koscielny, wearing the captain's armband, who's at fault. Wenger has never quite been able to solve his defensive problems, despite looking good on paper.
63' Brilliant play from Pogba but woeful defending from Koscielny yet again.
GOAL! Lingard breaches the Arsenal defence again! Manchester United hit on the counter, Lingard feeds Pogba and he does superb to beat his man. It's then played back across the goal to Lingard, who has a tap-in.
62' Continues to go back and forth at the Emirates, it's almost like a game of basketball.
60' This game is hanging in the balance and changes will likely be made in the few minutes. Arsenal, of course, have already been forced to replace Mustafi.
58' First yellow card of the games goes the way of Rojo, who barges Alexis to the ground.
56' SAVE! This game just won't stop! How are Arsenal not ahead or at least level? Iwobi feeds through Lacazette and he forces a superb save from De Gea, who then spectacularly saves again to deny Alexis on the rebound.
55' CHANCE! Iwobi again involved in the attacking third, as his shot is deflected over. Ozil takes the resulting corner but Pogba powers a header away.
53' SAVE! Arsenal immediately hit at the other end, with De Gea having his hands stung by a drive from Alex Iwobi. The Emirates Stadium is full of voice. Incredible game!
52' OFF THE POST! What on earth is happening? Lingard skips past a challenge from Xhaka and forces Cech into a save, tipping it onto the post. A superb block from Monreal then prevents the rebound from being tucked home.
51' That's exactly the start to the second period that Arsenal wanted and it's certainly deserved. They need to keep at it though.
49' Ramsey has been on fire recently and that was incredible from the Welshman, superb awareness.
GOAL! Game on! Alexis clips a ball over the top to Ramsey, who knocks the ball back to Lacazette and the Frenchman tucks home. The Manchester United defence is caught sleeping!
47' Strange match for Arsenal this, as Wenger probably won't be looking for too much to change in the second-half. Except of course putting the ball in the net and keeping it our of theirs. Simple.
45' Back underway for the second-half, with neither side making changes. Arsenal now kick to the right.
The game has fallen into the hands of Manchester United but they deserve credit, as they look devastating on the counter. Defensively they've been wobbly at times but they've stood firm. An early goal for Arsenal after the break changes everything though.
It's incredible that Arsenal are yet to score, they've forced crucial pieces of defending and crucial saves. They've hit the woodwork twice, they've dominated possession. Crucially though, they're the side that have made defensive mistakes and they've been punished.
HALF-TIME. And breathe. What a crazy first-half at the Emirates Stadium, where Manchester United have the lead after pouncing on mistakes from Koscielny and Mustafi. Valencia and Lingard where the scorers but it's been an onslaught from Arsenal since.
45'+2 CLOSE AGAIN! It's agonising for the Gunners! Alexis' free-kick is flicked towards goal by Lukaku of all people, forcing a spectacular save from De Gea, and then Lacazette forces another crucial block.
45' Two attempts on target for Manchester United, two goals. Arsenal, meanwhile, have nothing to show for their seven.
44' SAVE! Better from Arsenal as De Gea is forced to save a stinging shot from his compatriot Bellerin, then being required to make a save to deny the full-back on the other side, Sead Kolasinac.
42' CHANCE! How have Arsenal not got on the scoresheet? Again the defending leaves a lot to be desired and it falls to Ramsey with the goal at his mercy. Unfortunately, fantastic defending from Matic made a crucial block.
41' To be fair, Arsenal are playing some very good attacking football. They haven't tested De Gea as much as they'd like though.
40' Arsenal dominating possession but it's because Manchester United are sitting back having secured their lead.
38' A positive twenty minutes for Arsenal but they have nothing to show for it. The difference in this game is clear, Manchester United have taken their chances whereas the Gunners have not.
36' SAVE! Lacazette turns and clips a ball to Ozil on the edge of the box, who smashes towards goal. Unfortunately, it's too close to De Gea on this occasion.
34' SAVE! It's end-to-end here and Manchester United hit on the counter, where Pogba steers a low ball into the area that Kolasinac diverts into the hands of Cech- that could have gone anywhere!
33' HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN! Alexis plays into Lacazette, who miscues a first attempt, dribbles to strike again and his shot is saved by De Gea, bouncing up onto the bar. The rebound falls to Xhaka, who strikes an effort off the post.
32' Arsenal yet to truly test De Gea, they've been very poor.
30' Another free-kick in a dangerous area after Rojo fouls Alexis. It's prime position for Ozil's left foot but his curling effort is headed away by Young.
28' Mourinho's side look devastating when they hit on the counter, with Martial having plenty of room. Arsenal desperately need something to go their way.
26' United's tactical set-up has kept Alexis Sanchez quelled thus far, with Lindelof keeping right on the toes of the Chilean.
24' Not a surprise to see Manchester United sitting back, they have no reason to attack and leave themselves exposed. This game has gone better than Mourinho could have ever dreamed.
22' CLOSE! Positive signs for Arsenal, with United shaky at the back, and Ramsey sees an effort deflect off Lacazette and loop over the bar. The offside flag was raised though.
21' Arsenal have indeed changed their set-up tactically since losing Mustafi, now playing with a back four.
19' CHANCE! Scrappy, double chance for Arsenal, with the United defence waiting for De Gea to come out but he doesn't. The Gunners win a corner, with Xhaka heading back in and Lacazette getting a touch to the ball. The Spanish stopper gets a touch, which he knows nothing about, and the ball trickles wide of the post.
18' Manchester United continue to look dangerous in attack, Arsenal are a shadow of the side we've seen in recent weeks.
16' Arsenal's defensive trio of Mustafi, Koscielny and Monreal were yet to concede this season before this game. Two mistakes and they trail by two. It would take an incredible recovery to turn this game around.
15' Mustafi, guilty of the mistake, is taken off injured. Alex Iwobi comes on to replace him and it may result in a tactical reshuffle for the Gunners.
13' Arsenal the architects of their own downfall, a statement that you should always have ready to describe the Gunners.
11' It's another slick assist for Manchester United, this time with Martial providing the assist.
GOAL! Manchester United double their lead! Arsenal again sloppy in possession and the Red Devils pounce yet again. Lukaku pounces on Mustafi's poor ball, Martial lays the ball off to Lingard and it's 2-0. Woeful for the Gunners.
10' Arsenal's first real chance of the game comes from the left, where Ozil cuts back to Kolasinac. The wing-back drives a low ball into the area but it's easily dealt with.
9' Foul by Smalling on Alexis gives Arsenal a free-kick in a dangerous position. The Chilean takes but it's straight into the wall.
7' Arsenal always excellent in attack but consistently shaky at the back. It's what has held them back in recent years and there's no signs of an improvement today, with the mistake coming from today's captain Koscielny.
6' How will Arsenal react? Certainly not the start that the Gunners will have wanted and Mourinho's side now have something to defend.
4' Easy as you like for Pogba, who found Valencia with too much room after Ramsey and Monreal both shuffle across.
GOAL! A nightmare start for Arsenal and Manchester United score their first goal at the Emirates Stadium in three years! Koscielny sloppily gives the ball away to Valencia, who plays a one-two with Pogba and fires through the legs of Cech.
2' A fast paced start sees Manchester United win an early corner after Koscielny put the ball behind. Young's delivery is good but Pogba can't direct his header towards the goal.
1' KICK-OFF! We're underway at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal get us started and kick to the left.
As mentioned, Arsenal are currently enjoying a 12 match winning run at home in the Premier League. United have lost two of their last three games on their travels, so the form guide favours the hosts. However, Mourinho has a proud history of upsetting Arsene Wenger's side.
Manchester United are also unchanged following their midweek victory over Watford, where Ashley Young netted a brace. Summer signings Lindelof, Matic and Lukaku will be looking to make an impression, whilst Rashford on the bench has experience of causing the Gunners problems.
The big news for Arsenal is that Lacazette is passed fit to start after being taken off at half-time in the midweek victory over Huddersfied Town, which means the Gunners remain unchanged. Welbeck and Giroud are amongst the substitutes, with the latter scoring a brace in midweek.
Manchester United subs: Sergio Romero, Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, Matteo Darmian, Juan Mata, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera.
Arsenal subs: David Ospina, Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Per Mertesacker, Alex Iwobi, Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck.
Manchester United XI: David De Gea; Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof; Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Ashley Young; Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard; Romelu Lukaku.
Arsenal XI: Petr Cech; Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny; Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Sead Kolasinac; Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil; Alexandre Lacazette.
With Manchester City playing tomorrow, Manchester United have the chance to reduce their deficit in the title race to just five points. Jose Mourinho's side have struggled in recent visits to the Emirates Stadium though, losing their last two without scoring a goal.
Arsenal are high on confidence after a spectacular 12-match winning run at home in the Premier League, which can be extended to a joint club-record of 13 matches with victory today. A win would also put them just one point behind Jose Mourinho's side, capping off a superb few weeks for the Gunners.
