Minute   Description
This result could provide a big impact in the Premier League title race and Manchester United have work to do. They sit eight points behind Manchester City and now have to look over their shoulders, with Tottenham and Chelsea right behind them and providing plenty of pressure. November will be a crucial month for the Red Devils.
There was a lot of pressure on Antonio Conte heading into this game but his side have responded in superb fashion. The victory means Chelsea are three points clear of Liverpool, Arsenal and Burnley in the race for a top-four finish. Crucially though, they're now just a single point behind Tottenham and Manchester United.
FULL-TIME! Nothing comes from the corner and Chelsea have an extremely valuable win thanks to Alvaro Morata's superb header. The Blues were the best side throughout and Manchester United now find themselves eight points behind Manchester City at the top heading into November's international break.
90'+4 CLOSE! Rashford steps up and hits it well but it flies over the bar. There was a touch though and Manchester United have a very late corner.
A huge free-kick for Manchester United here.
90'+3 Oh Morata! Willian unleashes Chelsea on the counter and feeds through his team-mate. The Spaniard had his sights for goal but he tried to trick the defender before taking a shot and fluffed his lines. How costly could that be?
90'+2 Valencia is limping on the far side but he'll have to see the game out. Manchester United are in last chance saloon.
90'+1 Four added minutes at Stamford Bridge.
90' SAVE! Courtois finally tested and he's kept on his toes by his international team-mate Fellaini. The midfielder rose to control an aerial ball well with his chest and struck an attempt at goal that the Chelsea stopper was equal to.
88' Manchester United enjoying a decent spell towards the end of this match but they're yet to fully test Courtois since the break. Time is running out for Mourinho's men.
87' Hazard's game is at an end as Willian comes on to take his place. The Belgian has been exceptional today and deserves his rest.
CHANCE! Courtois is rooted to the spot as Rashford flashes a shot at goal from just outside the box but the striker doesn't get his effort on target.
85' Penny for the thoughts of David Luiz? He'll have a challenge getting back into the defence if Chelsea keep a clean sheet.
83' Edging towards the end here but the game is still there for the taking. Manchester United need to respond as they currently sit eight points behind their arch-rivals at the top of the Premier League.
81' Herrera, already booked, commits a clumsy foul on Hazard. It wasn't enough to earn his marching orders but he'd be wise to avoid arguing with the referee about his infringement.
80' CLOSE! Almost a fortunate second goal for Chelsea as Rudiger's cross is extremely dangerous. It doesn't get a touch on it but De Gea looks nervous as it curls past his far post.
79' Chelsea's second change is one that raises eyebrows as Fabregas, who has been integral to the Blues today, is taken off and replaced by former Manchester United youth prospect Drinkwater.
78' Final change of the game for Manchester United, with Jesse Lingard on for Ashley Young.
Chelsea certainly seem intent on finding a second goal that can put this game to bed and they seem to taste blood here, as they continue to push in attack.
76' SAVE! Hazard continues to provide a spark in the attacking third for Chelsea and he runs into space, then firing at goal where De Gea can collect. The Blues are banging on the door again though.
75' CHANCE! Bakayoko snatches the ball in midfield from Fellaini and surges forward. His shot is poor and wide of the mark, when he had Morata in support to his left.
73' Chelsea back putting the pressure on Manchester United and it's going to be a very tight affair for the remainder of this match.
71' Fellaini becomes the third Manchester United player to be booked this half, as he's penalised for a flailing arm on Morata.
Rashford's delivery is poor, failing to beat the first man, and his second cross from another corner is better but Smalling fouls Courtois.
70' A decent spell for Manchester United on the ball but they're yet to fully test Courtois since the break. They do, however, win another corner.
68' Fellaini's presence already making an impact, as he takes down an aerial ball and lays off Rashford. He strikes at goal but only wins a corner following a deflection, with Herrera then slicing a shot from outside the area well wide.
66' Chelsea's turn to make a change and they respond to United's changes, with Zappacosta replaced by Rudiger. That sees Azpilicueta shift across to the right, with Rudiger slotting into the back three.
64' Manchester United making a change then and they certainly needed to. As it stands though, they seem the more likely to concede the game's second goal.
62' Fellaini is the second man on, with Phil Jones sacrificed. It suggests a tactical change for the visitors, who could now set-up in a 4-3-3.
Mkhitaryan, who's been a passenger throughout, is the first man sacrificed as Anthony Martial takes his place.
61' Chelsea forced all the way back to Courtois after their own corner but they remain the better side here.
59' United may look to make changes and a number of their subs have started to warm up, including last weekend's hero Anthony Martial.
57' Certainly not job done for Chelsea though, as Manchester United have seen more substitutes score than any other Premier League side and have also scored the most goals inside the final ten minutes.
55' GOAL! It's been coming and Chelsea finally take the lead. Azpilicueta launches a ball towards Morata and the Spaniard, under no pressure from the Manchester United defenders, heads into the top corner past his compatriot De Gea- his seventh Premier League goal of the season.
A superb ball from Azpilicueta. Morata had plenty of space but he had to be found and the ball from the defender was spot on.
54' CHANCE! Hazard has been the main man and he forces De Gea into action with a snap-shot. Chelsea have got United on the back foot and the home fans have increased the noise at Stamford Bridge.
52' Certainly a more physical game in the second-half and Manchester United have gone in hard on Hazard, with three different players in a minute fouling him.
51' Another Manchester United man in the book, again for a foul on Hazard, and Herrera is now cautioned.
Hazard wins another free-kick, this time under challenge from Matic, and it's a decent shooting opportunity for the hosts. Fabregas' delivery isn't good though as he fails to beat the first man.
49' Phil Jones enters the book for a wild challenge on Eden Hazard.
47' Chelsea starting the second half as they finished the first, looking solid on the ball and looking to break down their opponents.
45' KICK-OFF! We're back underway at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea getting us started and now kicking to the right.
Manchester United started the game well and have made their attacking intent clear throughout. However, they slipped towards the end of the first-half and have struggled to make an impact in the attacking third. There's certainly a lot to do if they want to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City.
Chelsea have certainly been the better side in the first period and can count themselves unfortunate to not be ahead, as there wasn't much in the decision that saw their goal disallowed. The Blues have remained on the front foot throughout and are certainly responding to their troubles in midweek.
HALF-TIME! Goalless at the break but both sides have seen opportunities. Chelsea had the ball in the net courtesy of Phil Jones but he was adjudged to have been fouled by Alvaro Morata, whilst both Tiemoue Bakayoko and Marcus Rashford missed glorious opportunities for their respective sides. Still everything to play for in the second-half.
44' Referee Anthony Taylor is letting the game flow but that's started to irritate the home supporters and Antonio Conte, who gets a telling off from the official.
42' Manchester United remain unable to work their way through the gears in attack, which will certainly be the focus for Mourinho's half-time team talk.
40' CHANCE! Christensen rises highest in the area following a corner but mistimes his header, instead shouldering the ball over the bar.
39' Chelsea controlling the tempo of the game and look the more likely of the two sides to break the deadlock before the break.
37' Zappacosta is the latest Chelsea man to try his luck at goal from distance but he, like the majority of his team-mates, doesn't strike the ball effectively and it's another easy save for De Gea.
36' After starting strongly, Mourinho's side are struggling to make an impact in the attacking third despite their very clear attacking intent.
34' An excellent spell on the ball for Chelsea and Fabregas is becoming integral. His latest chip through in an attempt to find Morata doesn't quite come off but the danger signs are there for Manchester United.
32' Morata wiggles into some space to find room for a shot at goal but he fails to connect with the ball properly, making it an easy gather for De Gea.
31' Superb pressure from Young on Zappacosta wins Manchester United a corner but Rashford's delivery is easily headed away at the near post.
29' Chelsea perhaps the better side from what we've seen so far and they've certainly had the better opportunities. De Gea needs to be tested more, although the Blues will be pleased by the amount of space they're finding in the attacking third.
27' Still nothing between the two sides as we edge towards the half hour mark but it's been a very positive performance from each of the teams.
25' Lofted in by Fabregas, who attempts to find Morata, but the striker can't latch onto the ball under pressure from Bailly.
24' Another foul from Bakayoko, who's been popping up everywhere in the first quarter of the match, and the home fans aren't pleased with the referee.
22' Manchester United free-kick in attack after a foul from Kante and it's pumped long to Matic. The Serbian can't quite get onto the end of the ball though, with Courtois dealing with the pressure.
20' First yellow of the game is handed to Bakayoko after he follows through on Jones.
18' SAVE! De Gea's turn to keep the scores level as Eden Hazard works his way inside following a short corner, cutting onto his left and firing a shot at the Spanish keeper who does enough to keep it out. The rebound fell to Fabregas, who headed into the side netting.
16' SAVE! Courtois is tested for the first time today as Lukaku turns his man outside the box and blasts a low shot towards the bottom left-hand corner but his compatriot between the Chelsea sticks is equal to the effort.
15' A very open affair here and both sides will feel they should have found the net, with Rashford and Bakayoko missing glorious opportunities. There's plenty of space for both teams to work with and it's set-up nicely for a thrilling clash.
13' Bakayoko certainly isn't put off by that miss though and immediately gets involved in the attack again, surging forward and seeing a low shot take a deflection to bobble wide. De Gea punches away from the resulting corner and the sparring match continues.
11' WHAT A MISS! Chelsea should have the lead! Zappacosta's low ball into the area misses Morata and finds Bakayoko in acres of space. Leaning back when he takes his shot, the summer signing misses the target when it was easier to score.
10' An end-to-end start to this game in West London, with both sides going through the gears in the opening exchanges. It's delicately poised at this stage and both sides have had big moments of note in attack.
8' CHANCE! Decent build-up play for Manchester United sees Lukaku feed Young out wide and a threatening ball is lofted into the middle. Rashford is there but shuts his eyes under pressure from Courtois, with his header looping onto the roof of the net.
7' DISALLOWED! Chelsea have the ball in the net as Alonso whips a dangerous cross into the middle where Phil Jones slices into the top corner of his own goal. Morata is adjudged to have pushed the defender over and there was slight contact, although Jones was certainly fortunate.
6' No signs of Mourinho's bus here at Stamford Bridge, as Manchester United have started on the front foot and have kept Chelsea quiet in the opening few minutes.
4' Young wins a corner after surging down the left, which gives Rashford an opportunity to take, It's played short but the England international whips a cross into the middle after receiving the ball again, though it's snatched comfortably by Courtois.
2' Chelsea win an early free-kick out wide on the left as Morata is fouled by Smalling, giving a good opportunity to get the ball into the box. Fabregas steps-up to take and he plays it short to Kante, who drives low from distance but it's an easy save for De Gea.
1' KICK-OFF! We're underway at Stamford Bridge. Manchester United get us underway, kicking from left to right.
Final whistle in today's other big match at the top means Manchester United enter this game eight points behind their arch-rivals. Chelsea are now 12 points behind, so neither side will want that margin to stay and a draw wouldn't really change the picture at all.
Chelsea will consider themselves favourites for today's clash as the Blues have lost just one of their last 15 Premier League matches against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, a 3-2 loss in October 2011. The Red Devils have also lost five of their eight away games immediately following a European match.
Manchester United have made a host of changes from midweek, with six in total. McTominay, Darmian, Blind, Martial and Lingard all drop to the bench, with Juan Mata surprisingly not making the squad. Jones, Young, Valencia, Herrera, Rashford and Mkhitaryan all come into the starting line-up. They are unchanged from their victory over Spurs last weekend though, so Mourinho has opted to return to what seems to be his favoured XI.
Chelsea make three changes to the side that was defeated 3-0 in Rome during midweek, with David Luiz left out of the squad. Pedro and Rudiger both drop to the bench, with Christensen, Zappacosta and Kante restored into the side.
Manchester United subs: Sergio Romero, Scott McTominay, Matteo Darmian, Maroaune Fellaini, Daley Blind, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial.
Chelsea subs: Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Pedro, Willian, Ethan Ampadu, Danny Drinkwater, Michy Batshuayi.
Manchester United XI: David De Gea; Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling; Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young; Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea XI: Thibaut Courtois; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Gary Cahill; Davide Zappacosta, N'Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Marcos Alonso; Cesc Fabregas; Alvaro Morata, Eden Hazard.
Manchester United are looking to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City, who lead Arsenal 3-1 and look to be set for a ninth consecutive Premier League win, so there's no room for a slip up today. Tottenham's win against Crystal Palace this morning also saw the Lilywhites join the Red Devils on 19 points, so their spot in second isn't even secure.
Sat fourth in the Premier League, defending champions Chelsea haven't been great this season and have already lost as many matches at Stamford Bridge this season (2) as they did during the entirety of last year's title winning campaign. Defeat today would almost certainly end their hopes of back-to-back titles, so a response is needed.
Good afternoon and welcome to our LIVE text commentary of Chelsea v Manchester United, as Jose Mourinho returns to his former side and looks to keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City. The hosts are looking to close the gap at the top, as well as earning redemption for their 3-0 Champions League defeat to Roma in midweek.
