Minute   Description
FULL TIME! Villarreal coast into the knockout stages of the Europa League, courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 win over Apollon in Cyprus. First-half goals from Moreno and Vietto wrapped up the three points for Marcelino's men, with the hosts offering very little offensively. That's all that we have time for, I've been Simon Harrison and I hope to see you again next time!
90'+1 We're into the first of two minutes of stoppage time.
89' Villarreal almost make it three in the dying embers of the game, but a tame cross dribbles across the face of goal and evades the intentions of two yellow shirts. Moreno tries to poke a finish beyond Hidi but the goalkeeper sticks out an important leg.
87' The Villarreal travelling support are making plenty of noise late on, having watched their side play out an almost perfect away performance. Only a few minutes remain for the Yellow Submarine to tie up a very efficient three points, in which they have avoided picking up any injuries.
85' Only five minutes are left for Apollon to find a consolation goal, but a couple of brief stoppages in play are due to scrappy fouls from the hosts. Marcelino's men continue to move the ball well, they have been extremely professional in their approach this evening.
83' Villarreal are happy to slow the tempo right down when they are in possession, but Moreno and Uche continue to make intelligent runs towards the channels when required. It is just a case of winding down the clock now for the Spanish outfit.
81' J. Rezek is cautioned by the referee.
Less than ten minutes remain for the away side to see out, with a clean sheet looking to be achievable for Asenjo. That will settle his Europa League nerves, after his poor last outing at the hands of Gladbach. Apollon are looking a little brighter in possession, but it is a case of too little, too late. Uche clips a cross across the six-yard box, but neither Angeli nor Moreno can get a touch.
79' Rezek is able to guide a tame header into the torso of Asenjo, after good work down the right-hand side from Sangoy. The Argentine substitute has definitely made a difference for Apollon, that's for sure.
77' Mulder is forced to concede yet another corner at the back post, which is hurriedly taken short and worked back to Gomez on the left - but nothing comes of the opportunity. With just over ten minutes left to play, Apollon need to find a goal now if they are to turn the scoreline around.
76' R. Hamdani is done for the day. C. Kyriakou is his replacement.
75' Sangoy stands over another free kick, with the number ten looking confident of his chances once again. This time, a teasing delivery is whipped into the box, which is almost prodded home by both Merkis and Thuram, but Asenjo is just about able to claim!
73' Hidi is forced to cover his near post, after Moreno is picked out well at the back post. Villarreal have been working the ball from side to side brilliantly throughout this game and the hosts have absolutely no answer for it. Thuram brings Jaume Costa down heavily with a poorly timed tackle.
72' Sangoy shoots from 35 yards out, perhaps taking inspiration from Granit Xhaka's thunderbolt which beat Asenjo all ends up last time out in the Europa League! The Argentine watches the ball laser past the near post, but the goalkeeper was worried!
71' Jaume Costa is yellow-carded.
70' Good save from Hidi! The goalkeeper was quick off his line to slide in and deny Uche on the edge of the box, after the Nigerian striker was slotted through on goal impressively.
69' I. Uche goes into the referee's book.
While Villarreal's passages of play look well-drilled and imprinted into their players' muscle memory, Apollon are looking fractured and laboured in their approach. Uche is penalised for a late sliding tackle on Angeli.
67' Papoulis is withdrawn for the home side, with Rezek his replacement. The Greek winger failed to impose himself on the game, but receives a smattering of applause from Apollon's supporters as he takes his leave.
66' J. Rezek comes on for F. Papoulis.
65' With less than half an hour left to play in this contest, Apollon aren't looking like getting back into the game whatsoever. Sangoy has been keen to receive the ball whenever possible since taking to the field, but has thus far been let down by mistakes from his teammates.
63' Sangoy goes down claiming a free kick on the edge of the Villarreal penalty area, after a physical aerial challenge from Gabriel, but the referee isn't interested, even with the substitute rolling about theatrically.
62' Villarreal are more than happy to sit deep and absorb pressure, especially as Apollon's final ball has been so consistently awful all evening. Gabriel and Dorado have had a walk in the park so far, with the hosts' front three offering absolutely nothing between them.
60' Andone opts to make his first change of the game, with Sangoy introduced in the place of Olinga. The Romanian boss had to alter something, his side just aren't offering anything going forward, Thuram has been a complete passenger. Marcelino, meanwhile, replaces goalscorer Vietto with Uche.
59' I. Uche enters the game and replaces L. Vietto.
G. Sangoy enters play, replacing F. Olinga.
58' Olinga looks like a different player in the second half in terms of confidence, with the youngster wanting to try and beat his man whenever possible, but the execution isn't quite there at the moment. A couple of substitutes are being readied on the sidelines for Apollon, it seems. Vietto blasts an effort high and wide from the edge of the box.
56' Andone does not look to be a happy man, with the Apollon coach left to bemoan another mix-up between Angeli and his goalkeeper, which results in the hosts giving away yet another corner. Fortunately for the Cypriot side, Villarreal roundly waste their set piece by taking it short.
54' Jaume Costa is beaten by a clever flick by Olinga, but the Malaga loanee is then penalised for tugging on the shirt of the left-back. Dorado is then called into action to head a cross behind for a corner at the near post, which is roundly wasted by a terrible delivery into the first man.
52' Gomez slides a ball across the edge of the six-yard box, but it is slightly too heavy, meaning that nobody can quite stretch enough at the back post to turn the delivery home. The youngster is disappointed with the quality of his pass, and so he should be.
50' The second half has started much the same as the first, with Apollon unable to make any inroads into the away side, while Villarreal enjoy the lion's share of possession. This hasn't made for good watching for the home fans nor their coach.
48' Gabriel heads wide! The Brazilian defender meets a corner delivery, but can only divert it beyond the far post! He claims for a touch off Olinga, but the referee isn't interested whatsoever.
47' Marcelino opts to make two changes at the break, with Mario and Bruno withdrawn and Espinosa and Trigueros introduced for the away side. The La Liga outfit clearly have one eye on their next fixture already.
46' Bruno is replaced with Trigueros.
Javier Espinosa enters the game and replaces Mario Gaspar.
We are back underway in the second half in Cyprus, with Villarreal appearing to be facing an easy second period against Apollon, following a negative opening 45 minutes from the hosts.
HALF TIME! Villarreal head into the dressing room with a very comfortable 2-0 lead against Apollon, courtesy of goals from Gerard Moreno and Luciano Vietto. The home have offered very little going forward with Marcelino's men looking to be cruising into the knockout stages. Be sure to stick around for the second half in ten minutes!
45' There will be one minute of stoppage time.
44' The tempo has slowed right down since Villarreal's second goal, with the away side seemingly happy to retain the ball and allow Apollon to do the chasing late in the half. Only a couple of minutes stand between us and half time.
42' Vietto has finally got the goal which he has deserved for a bright first-half performance, with the Yellow Submarine looking set to take home three points from Cyprus. Meanwhile, in Group A's other match, Gladbach lead Zurich courtesy of a goal from Patrick Herrmann.
40' The assist came from Jaume Costa.
GOOOOOOOOOAL! VIETTO MAKES IT 2-0! After good work down the left-hand side, the ball is cut back square from 12 yards, enabling the Argentine youngster to slide an easy left-footed finish into the bottom left corner. That could be the game wrapped up already.
38' Vietto nearly gets in behind Merkis, but the central defender is just about able to stretch and poke a pass back to his goalkeeper. With less than ten minutes remaining of the first half, the last thing Apollon want to do is concede again.
37' Finally, the away side have their opening goal and it certainly hasn't come against the run of play. Andone looks utterly disgusted in his technical area, with the Romanian coach looking slightly baffled as to what he is to do with eleven men who have created nothing offensively.
35' GOOOOOOOOOAL! Brilliant finish from Moreno! The Spanish striker is able to clip a lovely chip over the stranded figure of Hidi, after a mix-up at the back for Apollon. The Villarreal man was able to get the wrong side of Angeli, who failed to clear a pass into the box, before giving his side a deserved lead!
34' Asenjo rises well to claim a cross above Olinga, with the Villarreal goalkeeper continuing to have very little to do in between his posts for the visitors. Apollon may well want to test the Spaniard, given that some poor goalkeeping was the root of the La Liga outfit's draw against Gladbach.
32' Merkis heads clear, after Gomez did well to overlap down the left-hand side and clip a cross into the box. Vietto continues to be the heart of anything positive for the Yellow Submarine, but the Argentine's end product is just evading him at present.
31' The opening half an hour has been dominated by the away side in terms of chances, but still Marcelino's men can't break the deadlock. Both Moreno and Vietto have had numerous half chances around the penalty area, but Hidi has been equal to anything struck towards the target for Apollon.
29' Olinga's disappointing evening continues with too stray first touches in the last minute. Moreno is then denied by a block from Angeli at the near post, after good work from Gomez down the left-hand side. The resulting corner is half-cleared, before Bruno gives away a foul on the edge of the opposing penalty area.
27' Vietto is nearly picked out in space by a fortunate pass which wriggled through the hosts' lines, but Gullon is presented to deny the youngster. Moments later, he is able to direct a header towards goal from 12 yards out, but can only cushion it at Hidi.
25' Apollon win themselves another free kick in a decent area, but Farley's attempted delivery is easily collected by Asenjo. The home crowd haven't had much to cheer about thus far, their side have been very subdued offensively and it's easy to see why they are bottom of the group.
23' Vietto is again the man to try his luck, in the aftermath of a half-cleared corner, but the ball dribbles beyond the far post with Hidi content to be a spectator. Villarreal are starting to get closer, with Vietto involved again. Mario whips in a cross from the right, but it narrowly avoids the boot of Moreno.
22' Gullon lets fly from 25 yards out, but the Spaniard is unable to keep his effort down, with Asenjo happy to let the ball sail over his crossbar. Moments later, Villarreal break upfield, before finding Vietto just inside the box. Hidi is forced to push the ball behind following a stabbed effort from the former Racing Club man.
21' A. Rukavina is yellow-carded.
20' Moreno is picked out in space in the penalty area, but Angeli does well to track his man and ensure that his eventual shot is turned behind for a corner. The set piece is taken short, before being swung in towards the back post, but Mulder heads behind under pressure. The second corner is cleared at the near post.
19' Vietto has looked very bright in the opening stages, with the young Argentine dropping into space to cause dilemmas for the Apollon centre-backs. Villarreal are looking far more comfortable on the ball, but they will need to get it in and around the penalty area more often if they are to pick up a much-needed three points.
17' Good interception from Angeli! The central defender slides in brilliant to cut out a cross, after Rukavina was nearly found in space at the back post. Hidi hasn't really been tested so far, despite Villarreal seeing plenty of possession. Chances have been at a premium.
15' Pina gives away a free kick 25 yards from goal, bringing Thuram to ground unceremoniously. Olinga stands over it, but fires the ball directly over the wall and into the arms of Asenjo. The Spanish goalkeeper spills it at the first attempt, which won't fill him with confidence, especially after his shambolic performance against Gladbach.
13' Villarreal have started to get into their stride, moving the ball smartly from flank to flank in order to find space. Olinga dribbles down the right-hand side before looking to switch possession onto the left with Papoulis, but the Malaga loanee slips upon making contact with the ball. Moments later, the youngster clashes heads with Jaume Costa nastily.
11' Vietto does well to battle with Angeli, before sliding a ball in behind which Moreno can chase. Mulder covers across well to deny the Spanish forward, but concedes a corner - which is headed away easily at the near post.
10' Pina heads just wide of the bottom right corner! Moreno spread the play to Gomez on the left-hand side, who clips a nicely weighted cross towards the penalty spot. The Spanish midfielder meets the ball with his forehead, but can only guide it beyond the far post! Half the ground thought that was in!
9' Villarreal maintain a spell of heavy pressure, with Apollon's front three unable to impose themselves on the game thus far. Vietto has had the best of the first half's sparing opportunities, but Hidi was alert to the danger provided by the Argentine youngster.
7' Mario overlaps down the right-hand side, but his cross from the byline is deflected by Vasiliou's shin and into the path of Hidi. Moments later, the Albanian goalkeeper is very quick off his line to slide in and deny Vietto in a one-on-one opportunity!
6' Pina finds Mario overlapping on the right-hand side, before receiving the ball back from his full-back and failing to find another teammate with an aimless diagonal pass. Rukavina then attempts a cross from the right, but Angeli clears at the near post with ease.
4' Apollon move the ball from right to left, however an eventual diagonal pass from Vasiliou is easily controlled and brought out of the penalty area composedly by Jaume Costa. After a bright opening from Villarreal, the home side enjoy a spell of sustained possession.
2' Villarreal have the early pressure, with a corner won out of the right-hand side easily claimed by Hidi. There isn't a great atmosphere here tonight, with great swathes of the stadium's seating left completely empty.
1' We are underway in the first half in Cyprus! Villarreal are chasing top spot in Group A, with three points a very valuable asset, but will have to rely on the Gladbach's result. Apollon aren't playing with any hope of progressing into the knockout stages, but will want to give their supporters a good performance regardless.
Villarreal substitutes: Trigueros, Javier Espinosa, Cheryshev, Adrian Marin, Aitor Fernandez, Dos Santos, Uche.
Villarreal starting line-up (4-4-2): Asenjo; Mario, Gabriel, Dorado, Jaume Costa; Rukavina, Bruno, Pina, Moi Gomez; Vietto, Gerard Moreno.
Apollon substitutes: Kyriakou, Rezek, Sangoy, Bruno Vale, Wheeler, Guie Gneki, Joao Paulo.
Apollon starting line-up (4-3-3): Hidi; Mulder, Merkis, Angeli, Vasiliou; Gullon, Hamdani, Farley Rosa; Olinga, Thuram, Papoulis.
TEAM NEWS: Youngster Moi Gomez gets a start in midfield for the away side, with Tomas Pina slotting into defensive midfield alongside captain Bruno Soriano. Antonio Rukavina and Gerard Moreno also are included from the off by the Spanish visitors, with the likes of Ikechukwu Uche, Manu Trigueros and Denis Cheryshev available to make an impact from the bench. Cani is unavailable.
TEAM NEWS: Giorgos Merkis comes into centre-back in place of Joao Paulo, with Georgios Vasiliou slotting in at left-back in the absence of Robert - as Ioan Andone makes a few changes from the side which lost out to Zurich last time out in the Europa League. Guie Gneki Abraham is only among the substitutes for the hosts, with teenager Fabrice Olinga getting a start in attack alongside Thuram and Fotis Papoulis.
I'm Simon Harrison and I will be keeping you up to date with proceedings from Neo GSP, as the home side play for merely pride. Even three points wouldn't be enough to lift the Cypriot side off the bottom of their group, given that they only have one win to their name. Apollon come into the final game of the group stages on the back of four consecutive defeats.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Apollon Limassol versus Villarreal, as Marcelino's men look to continue their excellent recent form. The La Liga outfit travel to Cyprus in search of three points which would be enough to take them top of Europa League Group A should Borussia Monchengladbach fail to win in their respective fixture against FC Zurich.
