Participation:

92 teams participate in the competition:
- all 12 Premier League teams;
- all 16 Welsh League Division 1 teams;
- all 16 Cymru Alliance teams;
- 48 qualifiers from lower levels.

The 12 Premier League teams enter the competition directly at the 3rd Round.


Knockout stage:
------------

1st Round:
80 teams are drawn into 40 pairs.
Teams are divided into two sections (North and South) on regional basis.
Teams from different sections cannot be drawn against each other.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

2nd Round:
40 teams are drawn into 20 pairs.
The two regional sections from the 1st Round are kept, and teams from different sections cannot be drawn against each other.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

3rd Round:
20 teams from the 2nd Round and the 12 teams that enter the competition at this stage are drawn into 16 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

4th Round:
16 teams are drawn into 8 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Quarter-finals:
8 teams are drawn into 4 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Semi-finals:
4 teams are drawn into 2 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Final:
The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming Welsh Cup winner.
Winner is decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
The match is played at a neutral venue.

Qualification for UEFA competitions:
winner: UEFA Europa League
* - if the Welsh Cup winner qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, then no team from the Welsh Cup qualifies. The best placed Premier League team, not otherwise qualified for the UEFA Europa League, earns the spot instead.
