Season



Regular Season

Format:

36 teams, divided into 2 groups of 18 teams each (Groups 1-2).

Each team plays against all the teams from its own group twice - home and away - for a total of 34 games each, over 34 game weeks.

Players born on or after 1 January 1993 are eligible for participation, with up to three players born between 1 January 1992 and 31 December 1992 also eligible for participation.


Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.


Scoring bonus points and additional rules:

A series of penalty kicks is held after each game, regardless of its result. They don't have a merit for the teams' standings, except in the case, listed below (high-score draw).

Teams score additional points to the points they normally gain in a match as follows:

- an away win with 2 or more goals margin: 1 bonus point (this is NOT applicable if a match is awarded);

- in case of a score draw of 2:2, 3:3 or higher; the winner of a penalty shoot-out after the game scores 1 bonus point.

Examples:

team A vs team B 1:3 - 0 points for team A, 4 points (3+1) for team B;

team A vs team B 2:2, 3:2 from additional penalties - 2 points for team A (1+1), 1 points for team B.


Table order:

1. points won; 2. total goal difference; 3. total goals scored; 4. points in head-to-head matches; 5. goal difference in hth matches; 6. goals scored in hth matches; 7. total away goals scored; 8. draw.


Qualification for Final Stages:

1-4 place of each group: qualify for the Final Stages;

The top 2 "Premier" teams from each group qualify for Fase Final Filiales.



Final Stages:

Format:

8 teams contest the Serie A champion in a knockout format.


Quarter-finals:

Teams are paired according to their Tabla General de Cociente ranking:

1st vs 8th;

2nd vs 7th;

3rd vs 6th;

4th vs 5th.

Winners are decided over two legs.

The higher ranked teams host the second legs.


Semi-finals:

Teams are paired according to their Tabla General de Cociente ranking:

1st vs worst placed;

2nd best placed vs 3rd best placed.

Winners are decided over two legs.

The higher ranked teams host the second legs.


Tie-breakers for the Quarter-finals and Semi-finals knockout matches:

1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. away goals, 3. higher Apertura placing.


Final:

The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming Serie A champion.

Winner is decided over two legs.

The team with better ranking hosts the second leg.


Tie-breakers for the Final knockout matches:

1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. extra time, 3. penalties.



Relegation from the league:

Teams are ranked in a Tabla Anual de Cociente table, based on the resulting average score in Groups 1 and 2.

36 place in the Tabla Anual de Cociente: relegated to Serie B


Tabla Anual de Cociente table order:

1. average score; 2. total goal difference; 3. total goals scored; 4. points in head-to-head matches; 5. goal difference in hth matches; 6. goals scored in hth matches; 7. total away goals scored; 8. draw.
