Rhinos crush Reds, Hull salvage draw

Leeds Rhinos warmed up for the World Club Challenge by beating Salford, while St Helens and Hull FC drew in Friday's Super League action.

Just one week out from their international match-up at home with Australian champions Melbourne Storm, the Rhinos crushed Salford City Reds 42-14 to register their second Super League victory of the season.

The seven-tries-to-three triumph may not have been the Rhinos' best, but coach Brian McDermott was happy to take the points and look ahead to next Friday's clash with the Storm.

"It was scrappy. We didn't get to grips with the game and it was not a great spectacle," McDermott said after the victory.

"There were times when we had lots of options and things to go at, but we overplayed. It prepared us for next week because some lads got good game time, and those are the positives.

"We will take the positives and, if we had have had a shocker, we would have waved it off. We wanted to take care of what we could and we did that, to a degree."

Veteran Kevin Sinfield was the star for the Rhinos with a perfect seven-of-seven with the boot, while the victory was somewhat soured by the thumb injury picked up by full-back Zak Hardaker.

Meanwhile, Hull FC came from behind to notch a thrilling 22-22 draw on the road against St Helens at Langtree Park.

Things looked grim for Hull FC when they trailed by 10 points early in the second half, but tries to Tom Briscoe and Richard Whiting helped the visitors come storming back to get a share of the points.

In the other match on Friday, winger Joel Monaghan scored two tries as the Warrington Wolves beat the Catalan Dragons 24-16.
