Tigers top Aviva Premiership table

10 February 2013 01:56

Leicester Tigers moved top of the Aviva Premiership with a 28-12 win over London Welsh at Welford Road on Saturday.

Adam Thompstone scored the first try for the Tigers as they established a 16-3 lead at half-time.

Second-half tries to Niall Morris and Dan Bowden ensured victory for the home side with London Welsh's Gordon Welsh scoring all 12 of his side's points from penalties.

The victory lifted Leicester to top spot, after Aviva Premiership champions Harlequins lost 17-16 to the London Wasps in the late kick-off match.

Early tries to Tom Varndell and Christian Wade established a lead for the Wasps before Matt Hooper's try reeled the margin back to 14-13 in London's favour.

In a tight second-half, both sides could only manage one penalty each before Harlequins' Nick Evans missed a 78th-minute penalty that would have almost certainly won the match.

Third-place Saracens suffered a 29-16 defeat to second-last London Irish as Tom Homer kicked 19 points to power his side to victory.

Mark Cueto became the competition's all-time record try scorer as his crossing contributed to Sale Sharks 21-16 win over the Exeter Chiefs.

A double to Horacio Aguilla has helped Bath Rugby to a crushing 32-9 victory against Worcester Warriors while Gloucester Rugby moved within two points of the top four with a 27-11 triumph at Northampton Saints.
