Dragons dismiss City Reds, Cockayne hat-trick guides Wakefield

10 February 2013 01:20

Catalans Dragons stormed past Salford City Reds in the Super League on Saturday, dismissing them 40-6 at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Seven tries to the home side, including a double to Vincent Duport, saw them to the resounding victory, despite losing prop Julien Bousquet in the third minute courtesy of a red card.

Bousquet caught Salford's Theo Fages with a high hit, but the Dragons defied their numerical deficiency to score four second-half tries to runaway with the victory.

Thomas Bosc kicked six conversions for the victors, while Niall Evalds' converted try was the City Reds' only contribution on the scoreboard.

In the day's other clash, Wakefield Wildcats winger Ben Cockayne scored a hat-trick of tries to help his side to a 36-20 victory over Hull Kingston Rovers.

Cockayne - a former Hull KR player - scored all three of his tries in the final 20 minutes, seeing off a valiant comeback from the visitors at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.

Wakefield led 18-0 in the first half, but Hull KR pulled it back to an eight point deficit at the interval.

The Wildcats had seemingly seen off the visitors when Dean Collis' try was converted three minutes into the second period, extending the margin to 14.

But Hull would get within four points - 24-20 - before Cockayne's hat-trick of unconverted tries got Wakefield over the line.
