I´ve got the full picture now - Sinfield aims to save ailing Rhinos

Kevin Sinfield now understands the size of the challenge he faces at Leeds Rhinos after the struggling champions slipped to an eighth successive defeat in Super League.

After representing the club for 18 years as a player, Sinfield agreed to return as director of rugby following the dismissal of head coach Brian McDermott.

However, Sinfield's first game in charge failed to see a change in the team's fortunes, as the Rhinos conceded 26 second-half points without reply in a 42-10 loss at Castleford Tigers on Sunday.

Ninth-placed Leeds are in serious danger of missing out on the Super 8s with just three games remaining in the regular season, with the new man in charge admitting there are "no easy answers" as they bid to turn things around.

"I have enjoyed the last couple of days, but I didn't enjoy that 80 minutes if I'm honest," Sinfield told the media.

"But I've got the full picture now – I know exactly where we are at. Previously, I've been sat looking at it from afar, as an outsider. Now, I'm right with them, right in the middle, so I will reflect and evaluate where we go.

"I knew it was a big job, otherwise Brian would probably still be here. There is a bit to do, though I have to say their effort in that heat - they stuck at it.

"We've got to make some small changes, and hopefully they will add up to some big changes on the field.

"But there are no easy answers to this. The answer to most of these things is hard work, putting in some effort and making some sacrifices."
