29 February 2012 12:41

Brook Lopez scored 38 points in his third game back as the New Jersey Nets held off the Dallas Mavericks 93-92 in the NBA on Tuesday.

Lopez starred after returning from his broken foot with the go-ahead free throws with 42 seconds remaining after Dallas had stormed home with a 13-2 run.

Jason Kidd's three-pointer six seconds earlier had put the reigning champions a point up. Dirk Nowitzki top scored for Dallas with 24 points.

Division toppers the Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons and New Orleans Hornets respectively.

Derrick Rose scored a game-high 32 points for the Bulls, including the go-ahead basket in the last 20 seconds, as they held off the Hornets 99-95.

Joakim Noah and Luol Deng both had double-doubles for the Bulls who won an NBA-best 28th game and drew level with the Miami Heat at the top of the Eastern Conference.

The 76ers hammered the Piston on their home court 97-68 with six players reaching double figures for the Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia.

Reserve forward Thaddeus Young led the 76ers with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Pacific leaders the LA Clippers fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-97 after a fourth-quarter shooting barrage led by Derrick Williams and Michael Beasley turned the game.

The pair combined with 13 points each in the final quarter and 27 for the match as the Wolves put on 36 points to 21.

Blake Griffin showed no fatigue after his 22 points for the winning West in the All-Star game, top scoring for the Clippers with 30 as Chris Paul added 27.

The Boston Celtics avoided their first six-game losing streak since 2007 with a scrappy 86-83 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Celtics were far from their best. Ray Allen top scored with 22 points, after the Cavs had turned a 16-point deficit in the first quarter into a five-point lead in the third.

The Indiana Pacers flew out of the gates to rout the Golden State Warriors 102-78 for a fifth-straight win. Danny Granger top scored for the Pacers with 25 points, 17 of which came in a 33-10 run in the first and second period.

Ersan Ilyasova tipped in Brandon Jennings' miss with 2.2 seconds remaining as the Milwaukee Bucks escaped with a 119-118 win over the Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets won ugly against the lowly Toronto Raptors in a 88-85 result despite being dominated on the boards.

The Sacramento Kings defeated the struggling Utah Jazz with DeMarcus Cousins hitting 22 points and collecting 18 rebounds.
