Raikkonen praises improved Lotus

Raikkonen produced the fastest time on the fourth and final day of testing in Jerez, Spain, while he was also fourth-fastest on the opening day.

The Finn's Lotus team-mate Romain Grosjean topped the charts on the second day and Raikkonen is pleased with what he has seen so far ahead of the 2013 F1 season.

"We are happy with what we achieved, it was a pretty good test," Raikkonen said.

"We will see in the first race, but so far it is pretty OK.

"I think the car is a bit better everywhere."

After an impressive week in Jerez, Lotus head to the second pre-season test in Barcelona hoping to avoid the problems that plagued them in the Catalan city last year.

Lotus also impressed in Jerez in 2012 but then suffered a suspension failure in Barcelona, which disrupted their preparations, but Allison is confident his team have avoided that problem this year.

"We had a problem last year because we designed a single joint poorly," Allison told Lotus' website.

"We had created a suspension mounting which was capable of withstanding the loads if it had been made absolutely perfectly, however, that style of joint was very difficult to make accurately enough to get repeatable performance from each chassis.

"We ran chassis number one at Jerez and the suspension joint in this chassis was good enough to cope with the loads.

"We ran chassis number two at Barcelona and the joint in this one was made just a whisker differently, it was not capable of taking the loads and so failed instantly.

"Once we realised our error we redesigned the joint so that the glue lines were capable of delivering the required strength without any scatter from chassis to chassis.

"On the E21 (Lotus' new car) we've paid particular attention to this area so we're not expecting any repeat dramas."
