Brawn wowed by polished Hamilton

11 February 2013 17:25

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn says Lewis Hamilton is the complete package after watching the 28-year-old Briton in Jerez.

While Hamilton suffered a premature end to testing on the second day in Jerez last week, crashing into tyres on Wednesday, the ex-McLaren driver did enough both on and off the track to prove his worth to Mercedes.

Brawn believes Hamilton has all the skills required to succeed in his first season with Mercedes, while also praising the 2008 Formula One world champion for his honesty.

"He is clearly a very talented driver but F1 is about so much more," Brawn said.

"There are a lot of highly talented drivers who do not have the rest of it.

"I think he has the rest of it as well."

Brawn claimed Hamilton is interested in all aspects of preparation and is keen to discuss the car at every opportunity.

"He is very straightforward I have to say," Brawn said.

"In many ways he is very simple, very straightforward.

"He tells us what he thinks.

"He is never short of detail in telling you what he thinks and, of course, you learn at what level you need to go to.

"He is interested in everything about the car.

"He is interested in the fact that the stickers might not be put properly on the bodywork.

"He has a very good eye for detail, so I think he will be a very involved member of the team, which is what we wanted."
