Ogier takes control in Sweden

Frenchman Sebastien Ogier claimed the lead at the Rally Sweden in the World Rally Championship on Friday.

The Volkswagen driver – who was the fastest in qualifying - won five of the seven stages in the snow and now has an overall time of one hour, 16 minutes and 0.1 seconds.

Ogier's impressive performance means he is likely to win, with Citroen's Sebastien Loeb (+31.4 seconds) and Volkswagen's Jari-Matti Latvala (+33.1) second and third respectively.

Loeb and Latvala swapped positions throughout the day but the former just edged in front with a strong finish.

Qatar M-Sport Ford duo Mads Ostberg (+42.3s) and Evgeny Novikov (+1m11.7s) are fourth and fifth respectively.

Young Swedish driver Pontus Tidemand (+1m22.1s) also impressed and is in sixth in his PTM Ford.

Mikko Hirvonen – a two-time winner of the event – is more than 25 minutes behind Ogier after rolling his Citroen on Friday.
