Red Bull, Vettel ignore competitors

8 February 2013 19:41

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel says he 'does not really care' what his rivals are doing following the first test of the Formula One season.

The world champion had a positive feeling about the new RB9 car after completing 198 laps in his two days of testing in Jerez, Spain.

Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen set the quickest lap time on Friday, with three-time F1 title winner Vettel third fastest.

"I'm pretty happy. The car didn't have any problems in terms of reliability, so I'm very, very happy," he said.

"We could do a lot of laps every day and about the performance we cannot really say anything. We don't know what the other people are doing and at this stage we do not really care that much."

Vettel thinks that the next two tests in Barcelona may give a clearer picture of where teams are at in their preparations before the first race in Australia.

"Other people will run more and probably start playing around. If you keep your eyes open you might understand a little bit more about the others," he said.

"Surely in the next two tests we will learn a little bit more about ourselves but also about the others.

"Australia is a very different track with different conditions and I reckon in Barcelona it's going to be a little bit cooler than here and cooler than in Australia so it might be difficult to give a final heads up before the start of the season."
