Rangers outlast Bruins, Hurricanes beat Devils

13 February 2013 07:15

The New York Rangers survived a scare before prevailing 4-3 in a shootout against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.

The Rangers led 3-0 following goals from Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan and Anton Stralman before Boston stormed home in the third period.

David Krejci pegged one back for the Bruins, who sensationally levelled proceedings through Nathan Horton and Brad Marchand in the final two minutes of regulation.

But the Rangers recovered to claim their third straight win courtesy of shootout goals from Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan.

"We have to learn from it. But at the same time we showed some character not giving up and not folding the tent in overtime," Callahan said.

Meanwhile, two third-period goals from Jiri Tlusty led the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils.

"I think we're starting to find ways to win, and staying with the game plan," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller said.

"Last season, when teams would push harder, we'd get away from it. But we're buying in this season."

In other games, Craig Anderson made 42 saves as the Ottawa Senators shutout the Buffalo Sabres 2-0.

Colin Wilson netted two minutes into overtime to help the Nashville Predators end a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over the San Jose Sharks.

The Montreal Canadiens accounted for the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in a shootout, despite blowing a three-goal advantage in the final six minutes of regulation.

Troy Brouwer scored 32 seconds into overtime as the Washington Capitals rallied from two goals down to beat the Florida Panthers 6-5.

The Philadelphia Flyers snapped a four-match road losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves as the Dallas Stars claimed their fourth straight win by routing the Edmonton Oilers 4-1.

The Anaheim Ducks came from behind to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in a shootout.

And Roberto Luongo made 25 saves as the Vancouver Canucks secured a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
