Bruins overrun Canadiens, Ducks shut out Colorado

7 February 2013 07:05

Tyler Seguin inspired the Boston Bruins to a come-from-behind win over the Montreal Canadiens as the Anaheim Ducks also won in the NHL.

At the Bell Centre, Seguin proved the hero as the Bruins scored twice in the third period to post a 2-1 victory over the Canadiens that sees Boston claim top spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Canadiens had not been beaten so far this campaign when they were ahead going into the final third but Seguin had other ideas as he turned around a poor run of form with the equalising goal 14 seconds into the term.

Seguin evaded marker Alexei Emelin and pounced on a pass from David Krejci for just his second goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, the Bruins found the back of the net once again as Seguin set up the attack, the centre working hard to help out his defence before feeding the puck to Milan Lucic.

Lucic attacked down the wing hard before squaring the ball to Krejci for an easy tap-in two minutes and five seconds into the period.

The result over the Bruins' fierce north-east rival was the team's seventh win from nine matches this season as they claim top spot in the east, while the Canadiens have dropped to third in the north-east division behind Ottowa, although both sides have six wins to their name this term.

Elsewhere, the Anaheim Ducks won their third consecutive match, beating the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 for a 7-1 record this season and the franchise's best start to a NHL season.

The Ducks scored twice in the first period as Sheldon Souray found the back of the net before Saka Koivu doubled the advantage.

And Francois Beauchemin rounded out the scoring for Anaheim in the second period as new signee Viktor Fasth recorded his first NHL shutout.

In Wednesday night's late game, Jaromir Jagr scored during overtime to hand the Dallas Stars a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Ales Hemsky opened the scoring for Edmonton during the second period, but the Stars took the lead into the last as Jamie Benn and Derek Roy found the back of the net.

Justin Schultz scored to send the match to extra time, but Dallas prevailed as Jagr fired his snap shot home from Benn's assist.
