25 February 2019 03:22

Brandon Montour is heading to the Buffalo Sabres from the Anaheim Ducks.

The Sabres have acquired the 24-year-old defenseman from the Ducks, the team announced on Sunday.

Anaheim received Brendan Guhle and a 2019 first-round draft pick in the deal.

"Brendan Guhle is an excellent skater who is ready to take the next step in his career," Ducks general manager and interim coach Bob Murray said in a statement.

"Adding Guhle and a first-round pick is an important step as we retool our team moving forward."

Montour made his NHL debut for the Ducks in 2016-17. He has tallied five goals and 20 assists in 62 games this season.

Meanwhile, Guhle was the 51st pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 23 games over three seasons for Buffalo.

The Sabres entered play on Sunday in fifth place of the Atlantic Division standings with a 29-24-8 record. The Ducks stand at 24-29-9.
