Tom Brady sets record for regular-season wins with controversial victory

16 October 2017 00:29

Tom Brady already held the record for most wins by a quarterback in NFL history, and now he also has the mark for regular-season victories.

The Patriots quarterback broke a tie with Brett Favre and Peyton Manning as New England held on for a 24-17 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.

It was the 187th regular-season win for Brady, who has 212 total victories, including the play-offs.

Favre and Manning each had 186 wins in the regular season with Favre holding 199 victories, including the postseason, at the time of his retirement. Manning retired following Super Bowl 50 with 200 total wins.

New England's seven-point win Sunday was not without controversy as Jets tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins had a touchdown taken away by a questionable call.

Seferian-Jenkins was headed to the end zone when he briefly bobbled the ball before falling into the pylon. He landed out of bounds with the ball securely in his grasp and the play was initially ruled a touchdown. Officials ruled following a replay review that Seferian-Jenkins fumbled the ball out of bounds for a touchback, negating the score and giving the ball to New England.

Controversy aside, Brady's record as a starter is phenomenal. For Manning to reach 200 total wins, he had 92 losses. Favre's teams lost 123 times in 322 games. Brady's 212 total victories have come with just 63 losses. His Patriots are now 187-54 during the regular season with him at quarterback.

Even with the record, Brady was not impressed.

"I wish we would have done better, but we won," he said after the game. "With a game like this, 24-17, some good plays we made, a lot we left out there. We could have won 50-0 and it would be the same thing. It's just about getting a win and finding a way to win each week."
