Finch in, David Hussey out for Australia

Hussey has followed brother Michael out of the team and has been replaced by fellow Victorian Aaron Finch.

There was also no place for all-rounder Shane Watson and fast bowler James Pattinson, who are both on the comeback trail from injury but selectors are confident that skipper Michael Clarke will be fit after missing the final game of the drawn series against Sri Lanka with an ankle injury.

Hussey began the 2-2 series against Sri Lanka with an impressive unbeaten 60 from just 34 balls at the MCG but from there managed scores of only 29, four, one and 34 and has paid the price as selectors recalled Finch.

Named player-of-the-series in the Big Bash League after guiding the Melbourne Renegades to the semi-finals, Finch played the first two matches against Sri Lanka - scoring 16 and four - but was left out when David Warner returned.

National Selection Panel chairman John Inverarity said: "The NSP was delighted with the ODI team's impressive win against Sri Lanka in Hobart on Wednesday, in particular with Phillip Hughes' well-crafted innings and the bowling of Xavier Doherty and Moises Henriques.

"There were concerns, however, with the team's batting performances during the series when the conditions were conducive to swing bowling, conditions that were beautifully exploited by Nuwan Kulasekara and Lasith Malinga.

"Aaron Finch has been included in the squad at the expense of David Hussey.

"A top four of Warner, Finch, Hughes and Clarke has good balance and the team looks forward to getting better starts than has been the case recently.

"David Hussey has been dropped from the squad as the NSP keeps a constant eye on the future."

Pattinson's failure to play any cricket at all since recovering from the side strain he suffered during the Test series against South Africa meant selectors were unwilling to recall him just yet while Watson will play for his grade cricket side in Sydney on Saturday following a calf strain.

"James Pattinson came under consideration for this squad but, at the time of the selection meeting, he had not bowled a ball in interstate or international cricket since 24 November," Inverarity added.

"It is anticipated that James will go to Perth to practice with the squad.

"Shane Watson has been making pleasing progress in recent weeks.

"He is planning on playing for his Sydney club tomorrow and will be available for selection for New South Wales' RYOBI One-Day Cup fixture against Western Australia on 30 January."
