Kaneria appeal against ban adjourned

10 December 2012 19:06

Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has had his appeal against a lifetime ban from cricket adjourned, probably until the New Year.

Kaneria was punished by the England and Wales Cricket Board after being found guilty of involvement in an elaborate spot-fixing scheme.

The 31-year-old was found to have pressured then Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield into attempting to concede a certain amount of runs in an over in an English county cricket match in 2009.

The adjournment came after both sides made legal submissions with a new date for the hearing - likely to be in 2013 - to be announced shortly.

Kaneria has been banned from playing in his home country by the Pakistan Cricket Board until his appeal is heard.

The leg-spinner, who has taken 261 wickets in his 61 Tests at an average of 34.79, maintains his innocence.
