James, Wade star in Heat win, Bulls fall to Cavs

27 February 2013 07:30

LeBron James scored 40 points and notched 16 assists as the Miami Heat claimed a 141-129 win over the Sacramento Kings in double overtime.

The Heat survived numerous comebacks from Sacramento throughout Tuesday's game in Miami and the home side eventually broke the Kings in the second period of overtime with 17 points to five to claim their 12th straight victory in the NBA.

Miami led by eight points with one minute and 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter and 121-118 with 2:03 on the clock in the first period of overtime, and both times the visitors fought back.

But in the second period of overtime on Tuesday, James took over.

The 28-year-old forward scored 11 of the Heat's 17 points in the second period of overtime, while also setting up Dwyane Wade for four more.

Wade finished the game with 39 points, while Marcus Thornton top-scored for Sacramento with 36 points off the bench.

Miami have moved nine games clear of the Atlanta Hawks in the Southeast Division after their 12th win in a row.

In Chicago, the Cleveland Cavaliers continued the home team's poor run, triumphing 101-98 in the Bulls' eighth loss from 12 games this month.

Despite being without key point guard Kyrie Irving, Cleveland fought back from 22-19 down at the end of the first quarter to win by three points and Chicago's Joakim Noah claimed the Bulls need to increase their intensity if they are to improve their form.

"We have to play with more urgency and play together," Noah said.

"It is disappointing right now and it has been a long stretch where we have not been playing great basketball and we have to find a way to win."

Chicago's loss allowed the Indiana Pacers to increase their lead in the Central Division as they overcame the Golden State Warriors 108-97, while the Phoenix Suns needed overtime to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 84-83.

In other NBA results, the Orlando Magic cruised past the Philadelphia 76ers 98-84, the Brooklyn Nets claimed a 101-97 victory against the New Orleans Hornets, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Dallas Mavericks 95-90 and the Los Angeles Clippers thumped the Charlotte Bobcats 106-84.
