16 February 2013 06:19

Kenneth Faried starred with 40 points and 10 rebounds as Team Chuck defeated Team Shaq 163-135 in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday.

Denver Nuggets power forward Faried grabbed the spotlight in the team selected by television analyst and former Philadelphia 76ers star Charles Barkley.

The 23-year-old made 18 out of 22 shots to earn the Most Valuable Player award.

Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers also impressed with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Sacramento Kings point guard Isaiah Thomas weighed in with 18 points and 10 assists.

Shaquille O'Neal's beaten Team Shaq were led by two Cavaliers players, Kyrie Irving registering 32 points and Dion Waiters adding 23 from the bench.

The match ended in an informal dunk contest, with Faried landing four to great acclaim from the crowd at Toyota Center, Houston.

In the celebrity game, James Harden's West team defeated Russell Westbrook's East side 58-38.

Led by comedian Kevin Hart, who was MVP for the second successive year, the West were too slick for an East side that boasted the pace of Olympic champion Usain Bolt.

Other celebrities who took to the court included television host Terrence Jenkins, US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and The Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson, who scored the game's only three-pointer in the second quarter.
