Anadolu edge Real, CSKA close in

15 February 2013 01:09

Real Madrid tasted Euroleague defeat for the first time this term as their conquerors, Anadolu Efes Istanbul, drew level at the top of Group E.

The home side withstood a late rally by Real to win 74-72 and are now only behind the Spanish team on points difference, with both teams on nine wins and one loss.

Anadolu Efes jumped out the blocks in the first quarter and had established a commanding 10-point lead at half-time.

But Real fought back, closing the margin to five at the last break before the Turkish side hung on to claim a vital victory.

Jamon-Alfred Lucas posted a team-best 16 points for the victors.

CSKA Moscow drew closer to the Group E leaders as they comfortably defeated Panathinaikos Athens 86-69.

Milos Teodosic's 20-point haul for CSKA was well-supported by Sonny Weems' 19 points as the Russian side were never headed.

Group F leaders FC Barcelona Regal needed a dominant third period to overcome Maccabi Electra 82-77 on the road.

With the margin only two points in Barcerlona's favour at half-time, the Spanish side rode a 26-14 third-period to open up a match-winning gap that Maccabi could not reel in.

Ante Tomic led Barca with 18 points while Ricky Hickman's haul of 19 was best for Maccabi.

In other results, Zalgiris Kaunas snuck an 88-87 road win against Brose Baskets and a last-second triple from Marcus Williams handed Unicaja Malaga shatter Alba Berlin 67-65.
