Lopez confident in his own abilities

Brook Lopez believes he is the best centre in the NBA Eastern Conference after he led the Brooklyn Nets to a 94-89 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The 24-year-old scored 20 points against the Hawks and has averaged 18.9 points per game in what has been a breakout season for the Stanford graduate and he is growing with his confidence in every game.

"It's a huge compliment obviously (to be called the best centre in the Eastern Conference) and I'm very confident in myself and my abilities," he said.

"I just want to go out and give it 100 percent night in, night out. I give it my best every time and whoever we are playing I take it as a challenge.

"I don't really watch many other teams so I have to take it by who I see when I play and who I see and I feel like I am definitely at the top."

Lopez reflected that the physical nature of the game against the Hawks complemented his team's style of play and ensured they were able to avenge their 109-95 loss to Atlanta on Wednesday.

"They were physical guys but I feel like our team is comfortable playing physically. I think that's an advantage for us and like I said before it was physical but we did a good job of defending them in transition," he said.

"It's a contact sport, we have a lot of guys out here like Reggie (Evans) and Gerald (Wallace) who really drive for contact and thrive in the physicality so I think it caters to our strengths"
