Lakers no match for Thunder

8 December 2012 07:31

Oklahoma City Thunder have claimed their seventh NBA victory in a row with a 114-108 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Oklahoma City blitzed the second quarter, scoring 41 to 26 for the term, with Kevin Durant scoring 14 points for the home side as they jumped out to a 67-53 lead at half-time.

The Lakers trailed 89-75 with a quarter to play but despite outscoring the home side 33 to 25 in the final term, LA failed to overhaul the Thunder and succumbed to their third loss in four games.

Durant (36 points) and Russell Westbrook (33) were brilliant for the Thunder, while Kobe Bryant (35) top-scored for LA.

A slip from Rajon Rondo cost the Boston Celtics victory as the Philadelphia 76ers triumphed 95-94 in overtime, their first win of December.

The 76ers claimed their first victory in three games thanks to Evan Turner's under-pressure jump shot with three seconds on the clock.

Boston guard Rondo could have won Friday's game in the last second but his feet slipped slightly as he prepared to shoot and the ball did not even hit the ring.

Having trailed by four points at half-time, Philadelphia recovered in front of their home crowd, outscoring the Celtics 26 to 20 in the third quarter to lead 72-70 with a quarter to play.

Kevin Garnett's 20-foot jump shot forced overtime but the 76ers overcame that disappointment to win their first game of the month.

Turner top-scored for the winners with 26 points, while Thaddeus Young (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Jrue Holiday (15 points) were also handy contributors for Philadelphia.

For Boston, Paul Pierce scored 27 points, while Rondo produced a triple-double (16 points, 13 rebounds, 14 assists) in the one-point defeat.

The Utah Jazz smashed the Toronto Raptors 131-99, the Minnesota Timberwolves also had a comfortable win, overcoming the Cleveland Cavaliers 91-73, and the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Houston Rockets 114-92.

Southwest Division leaders the Memphis Grizzlies knocked off the New Orleans Hornets 96-89, while the Chicago Bulls, the top side in the Central Division, defeated the Detroit Pistons 108-104.

In other NBA results, the Denver Nuggets won 92-89 over the Indiana Pacers, the Golden State Warriors triumphed 109-102 against the Brooklyn Nets, the Sacramento Kings knocked off the Orlando Magic 91-82, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Washington Wizards 104-95 and the Milwaukee Bucks overcame the Charlotte Bobcats 108-93.
