Aoki at ease in Milwaukee

28 February 2013 12:20

Japanese centre fielder Norichika Aoki has paid tribute to the Milwaukee Brewers for helping him settle in to Major League Baseball.

Aoki joined the Brewers from the Tokyo Yakult Swallows in January 2012 and thrived in his debut MLB season last year.

The 31-year-old finished his first season with Milwaukee with a batting average of .288; with 10 home runs and 37 doubles, which was a record for a Brewers rookie.

And Aoki believes the atmosphere around the team played a crucial role in his success.

"It is a great environment," Aoki said in the lead-up to the Brewers' pre-season trial match with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.

"Everyone talks to me - the manager, the coaches, the players.

"Everyone always says something to me so it is a fun environment to be in."

Milwaukee missed out on the playoffs in Aoki's first season playing in the USA and the centre fielder has set his sights high for his second campaign with the Brewers.

"Getting to the World Series and winning the World Series," Aoki said when asked about his goals for the team in 2013.
