Darvish loving life in Texas

27 February 2013 10:39

Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish has warned Major League Baseball rivals to expect even more from him in his second season in the USA.

Darvish joined the Texas Rangers from the Hakkaido Nippon Ham-Fighters before the 2012 MLB season and made a promising start to life in the major league, posting 16 victories from 25 games.

But after throwing two scoreless innings in his opening pre-season game against the Chicago White Sox, Darvish believes he is both more comfortable and in better physical shape ahead of his second MLB season.

"Physically I feel a lot better, I weigh about where I should be, about 100 kilograms, when I'm running my body feels really light, and when I am throwing I feel a lot better than last year," Darvish said.

But it could be that Darvish's greater connection to life in Texas may play an even bigger role in 2013.

"Compared to last year I think my comfort level is really high, looking at the reaction of the fans and also getting along really well and communicating with my team-mates," Darvish said.

"I feel very comfortable this year."
