Crawford, League see Dodgers taking shape

26 February 2013 05:33

The Los Angeles Dodgers have continued their preparations for the new MLB season with a 7-6 friendly victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Carl Crawford, a US$20 million capture from the Boston Red Sox, is one of several new signings for the Dodgers going into the new campaign.

And the 31-year-old outfielder, who was first drafted by Tampa Bay in 1999, is looking forward to the latest chapter in his career.

"Wearing the jersey and being part of history is important, being part of this group that has taken over is a good thing right now," Crawford said.

"It has been wonderful, the guys and the coaches are great and the atmosphere here is wonderful and I am happy to have a fresh start."

The Dodgers have been using Brandon League as their closing pitcher in the pre-season, and he believes the team can improve on last season's return, when they missed out on the playoffs.

"Our goal is like anyone else's, to win ball games and to get to the post-season," he said.

"We are not dealing with it any differently. We are coming into this game ready to work hard like we have been this past week or two.

"We are trying to get ready for the new season, last year we had guys like myself joining the club late in the season but we are taking this time to build a foundation and take it with us into the new season."

The Dodgers' spring schedule began with a heavy 9-0 loss to Chicago White Sox, followed by a 2-2 tie against the same opposition.
