Giants take two-game lead in World Series

26 October 2012 06:22

The San Francisco Giants overcame the Detroit Tigers 2-0 on Thursday to take a 2-0 lead in the MLB World Series.

Madison Bumgarner pitched seven scoreless innings as the Giants seized command of the best-of-seven series ahead of game three in Detroit on Saturday.

The left-hander was hit just twice, struck out eight and walked two to lead San Francisco to the win at AT&T Park.

Even after Bumgarner's departure, the Tigers struggled to get their offence going.

No Tiger was able to record multiple hits, with Omar Infante and Delmon Young managing one each.

Brandon Crawford hit the go-ahead run with a double-play grounder with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

Hunter Pence added a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, while Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo starred as relievers in San Francisco.

The result was just Detroit's fourth shutout of the season, while the Giants are now just two wins away from clinching the World Series.
