Betances wants Yankees to sign Machado

Dellin Betances wants the New York Yankees to sign Manny Machado.

The Yankees won 100 games last season and advanced to the American League Division Series (ALDS), where they fell to the Boston Red Sox in four games.

Betances, the seventh-year New York reliever, said he thinks star free agent infielder Machado could be the missing piece in the team's lineup.

"I think he'll put us over the top," Betances said (via MLB.com). "We were short last year. Things could have gone our way, but they didn't ... Our lineup is already impactful, so adding a guy like that would be pretty crazy."

Machado, who was sent from the Baltimore Orioles to the Los Angeles Dodgers before the trade deadline, registered a .297/.367/.538 slash line in 162 total games in 2018. He also hit 37 home runs and tallied 107 RBIs.

Machado has made four All-Star teams and won two Gold Glove awards in his seven-year MLB career.

Betances registered a 4-6 record and a 2.70 ERA in 66 appearances out of the Yankees bullpen in 2018.
