Seven-try St Helens thrash Castleford Tigers

Super League leaders St Helens rounded off Magic Weekend in scintillating fashion by running in seven tries in a 36-16 victory over Castleford Tigers at Anfield.

Justin Holbrook's side sailed to a seventh straight win in the competition to restore their six-point cushion over Warrington Wolves, who defeated Wigan Warriors on Saturday.

Tommy Makinson, Regan Grace, Jonny Lomax and Theo Fages all dotted down as Saints scored 20 points without reply, but Grant Millington ensured the Tigers were on the board before half-time.

Jack Ashworth and Lachlan Coote crossed before Kevin Naiqama got in on the act with his eighth try in his last four outings when he surged away on the right and went over in the corner.

Chris Clarkson and Greg Eden scored a pair of consolation tries to add a bit of respectability to the scoreline for Daryl Powell's side, who missed a chance to go level with fourth-placed Hull FC.

Wins for Leeds Rhinos, their first under interim coach Richard Agar, and Hull KR left fellow strugglers London Broncos rooted to the foot of the table.

Jordan Abdull and Alex Walker touched down inside the final 10 minutes for the Broncos, but it was not enough to stop the Rhinos taking a 24-22 win.

Leeds were joined on 10 points – two clear of the Broncos – by Rovers, who ended a five-game winless run in Super League with a 22-20 victory over Salford Red Devils.

Craig Hall scored his 100th try in the competition as part of a double and Ken Sio also went through twice, but, after Krisnan Inu failed to convert Sio's second, Shaw's fifth goal of the match five minutes from time sealed an important triumph.
