Seraphin warns of ´fierce´ France at Olympics

28 June 2012 19:18

Washington Wizards power forward Kevin Seraphin believes France's tenacity will be the key if they are to win gold at the London Olympics.

The French basketball star believes his team are 'fierce' when they are on the court and have already given their Olympic opposition a warning with a 74-54 win over Italy on Wednesday.

Wednesday's match was one of two warm-up games France will play against Italy prior to the Olympics.

"It was important for us to show who we are from the beginning," Seraphin said.

"We are still a fierce team, that's our strength, we keep on fighting whatever happens."

France have been grouped with the USA, Argentina and Tunisia for the London Olympics.

Head coach Vincent Collet is pleased with his team's progress so far but has warned much more work needs to be done after the 20-point victory against Italy.

"We haven't committed that many mistakes and we have learnt a lot in just one week," Collet said.

"So that's encouraging but we need to improve and that's why we play Italy again.

"We will want to start the game better, to be more aggressive from the start."

France have only ever won two Olympic medals in men's basketball and have qualified for this year's Games after missing the past two.

Both medals were silver with the first coming in 1948 in London and the second in Sydney in 2000.
