Retiring Lewis in the Super Bowl spotlight

30 January 2013 10:07

The New Orleans Superdome opened its doors to the fans for an annual media day as the Super Bowl XLVII build-up got into full swing.

With the NFL showpiece less than a week away, players from the 49ers and Ravens took to the field on Tuesday to tackle questions from the world's media.

Baltimore legend Ray Lewis will make his final NFL appearance in this Sunday's game.

The 37-year-old linebacker won the Superbowl with Baltimore in 2001 and will be hoping to add another to his 228-game career.

Understandably he was not short of attention, particularly after allegations of him taking a banned performance-enhancing substance in his recovery from injury this year.

US magazine Sports Illustrated alleged on Monday that Lewis was given a product to help heal his torn triceps that contained a banned substance, something which he denies.

After 17 years at the franchise, the player will hope the allegations don't spoil what promises to be a spectacular send-off.
