Redskins lose Griffin as grieving Cowboys win

Robert Griffin III was injured as the Washington Redskins edged to victory in the NFL on Sunday, while Dallas recorded an emotional win.

A knee injury to quarterback Griffin soured the Washington Redskins' thrilling 31-28 overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens.

With the Redskins trailing 28-20, Griffin sprained his right knee and was forced to the sidelines after briefly returning and attempting to play on.

Kirk Cousins stepped in to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon, before Kai Forbath converted a 34-yard field goal in overtime.

Dan Bailey's late 40-yard field goal saw the Dallas Cowboys to a narrow 20-19 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Just a day after team-mate Jerry Brown died in a car accident – which led to defensive lineman Josh Brent, who was driving, being jailed for intoxication manslaughter – Dallas rallied from nine points down to beat the Bengals.

The Seattle Seahawks set a franchise record for points in a 58-0 thrashing of the Arizona Cardinals.

Marshawn Lynch ran for three touchdowns as the Seahawks ensured the pressure will only grow on Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt.

The Green Bay Packers were 27-20 victors over the Detroit Lions to move a win clear on top of the NFC North Division.

The New York Giants stayed a game clear atop the NFC East Division thanks to a 52-27 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Nick Foles threw two touchdown passes in the final four minutes as the Philadelphia Eagles ended an eight-game losing streak with a 23-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cam Newton (23 of 35 passes completed for 287 yards and two touchdowns) led the Carolina Panthers to a surprise 30-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Indianapolis Colts recorded a come-from-behind 27-23 win against the Tennessee Titans, the New York Jets kept their post-season chances alive with a 17-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings edged the Chicago Bears 21-14.

The St Louis Rams left it late to defeat the Buffalo Bills 15-12, the Cleveland Browns thrashed the Kansas City Chiefs 30-7 and the San Diego Chargers upset the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-24.

Finally, Frank Gore reached 1,000 rushing yards for the sixth time in his career as the San Francisco 49ers proved too good for the Miami Dolphins in a 27-13 win.
