Dominant Denver make it eight straight

7 December 2012 05:53

The Denver Broncos cruised to their eighth straight win on Thursday night with a comfortable 26-13 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

The Broncos, who have already clinched the AFC West, were far too strong for their division rivals at the O.co Coliseum with Peyton Manning once again in fine form.

The 36-year-old gave his side the perfect start with his six-yard touchdown pass to Joel Dreessen coming off the opening drive of the game.

A pair of Matt Prater field goals either side of quarter-time extended the Broncos' lead to 13 before the Raiders gave the home crowd something to cheer about with Carson Palmer combining with Darren McFadden for a touchdown with two minutes remaining in the half.

Denver added another field goal early in the third quarter before forcing a fumble on Oakland's next possession that left the Broncos just two yards out. Knowshon Moreno scored two plays later to push the margin out to 16 points.

Prater's fourth field goal made the game safe and although Darrius Heyward-Bey connected on a 56-yard pass from Palmer with five minutes remaining, the Raiders were never in the hunt as they slumped to their sixth straight loss.

Denver are now half a game ahead of New England and the Ravens for the second-best record in the AFC with the Broncos travelling to Baltimore next week for a crucial clash that could decide who gets a first-round playoff bye.
