Redskins overrun dwindling Giants

4 December 2012 06:47

The Washington Redskins recorded their third NFL win in succession on Monday, defeating the New York Giants 17-16.

Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 13 of 21 passes for 163 yards and threw one touchdown as the Redskins moved level with the Dallas Cowboys on 6-6 in the NFC East division.

Division leaders the Giants, meanwhile, fall to 7-5 following their third defeat in four outings.

Eli Manning starred for the Giants with 20 of 33 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown, but it was not enough to avoid defeat at FedExField.

The Redskins held a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to a Joshua Morgan touchdown.

However, the hosts were outscored by seven points in the second as Manning weaved his magic.

The 2011 Super Bowl MVP combined with Martellus Bennett for a second-quarter touchdown to hand the Giants a 13-10 lead at the main break.

New York added three points without response in the third but they were blown away by Griffin and his Washington team-mates in the final quarter.

Griffin setup wide receiver Pierre Garcon for a touchdown and it proved decisive as the Redskins held on for a one-point victory.
